2020 Election

Boiler - you are not following your talking points! No commission for you today! The line you have to use is:
"every legal ballot has to be counted, every illegal ballot has to be rejected" which roughly translates to "every Trump vote has to be counted, and every Biden vote has to be rejected".

Re: 2020 Election
I find the mail-in or absentee ballot validation to be unnecessarily slow in most/many States.
In the UK we did mail-in voting last year for the first time as we were going to be on holiday.
When applying for a mail-in ballot here it is the application form that you have to sign and that is checked against your signature on record, any discrepancies are followed up at this stage before a ballot paper is issued to you. When the ballot arrives by mail it has anti-forgery features including a watermark plus a unique number printed on it and pre-addressed pre-paid envelope to mail it back. You must mail it in plenty of time to arrive before or on the day of the election. If you end up not needing to mail it in you can hand it in at your polling station on the day of the election but won't be allowed to take a ballot paper and go into a booth. Once registered for mail-in voting you can choose to continue to have mail-in as the default.

When, in the UK, do they START counting mail-in ballots? In the US, many states (republican controlled, mainly) refused to allow polling stations to start counting mail-in ballots until close of polls, even though they were sitting idle for days/weeks. They KNEW, this time around due to the pandemic, that mail-ins would be at record levels, but wouldn't allow any adjustment of process.

One promising thing is that, if I remember right, no Democrat fighting for a seat in Congress who won or retained that seat was in opposition to Medicare for all. All the Democrats who opposed it lost their seats.
So perhaps the next blue wave will be a progressive wave too, which would give me a glimmer of hope again.

"Conor Lamb, who survived a Republican challenge in Pennsylvania, says Democrats were given a message on Election Day: Backlash to progressive policies risks killing their House majority"
"House Democrats, reeling from unexpected losses in competitive races, wasted no time. Moderates have blamed progressives for pushing policies such as “Medicare for all” and defunding the police, which are unpopular in swing districts."
We are not going to see eye to eye on this, but I think the ONLY reason Biden won was because it was Biden and not Sanders, and that Biden managed to tone down the 'progressive' agenda. The losses in the house and senate show that the majority of voters still favor a less progressive agenda. Voter turnout was, according to my analysis upthread, up by 15% on the Dem side and 13% on the Rep side (combined, circa 14%). That is a hell-of-an-increase. I doubt we'll see that level of turnout on the Dem side again.
(and to pre-empt pages of arguments over what 'progressive', 'socialist', etc means in the US: 'progressive' = "more left than the average American would prefer"; "socialist" = "more left than the average American would prefer")

It's far more messy than that. Florida voted for Trump but also for a $15 minimum wage.
People tend to want more progressive policies, but they have been conditioned to reject certain sources of them.

That's not what I'm reading. Just read this yesterday in the NYT. - Conor Lamb in PA - https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/08/u...ats-biden.html

I get it, you hated him 4 years ago and you still hate him now. I've seen a lot of hate thrown his way, but this guy is a consistent winner and an overachiever. That's what the people who support him love about him. Yes, there have been some scandals. Yes, there have been some lies, and maybe a few times he's twisted the truth to make himself look better. He's out there every day proving those haters wrong time after time. Call it jealousy, call it envy. Some people just can't handle how successful he is and how much money he has and could even be jealous that he's got a hot foreign model as his wife. You may not have wanted him in this role, but he's there now and there is nothing you or I can do about it. Like him or not, Tom Brady is turning things around in Tampa Bay.
