Intuitively I prefer a caucus, more debate and more likelihood of committed peoples involvement being a greater proportion than casual observers; though I have zero knowledge whether the outcomes are different.

Setting aside the caucus, I disagree. I'll also bet you've never been there. I live next door. Iowa's actually a pretty great place if you like peace and quiet and farms. It's beautiful, has a surprisingly dynamic economy, is very safe and has one of the best education systems in the country. A quick Google reveals that US News rated it #1 out of all 50 states in 2018 in their annual "Best States" ranking.

I’d be interested to know how much the election bandwagon adds to the state economy every four years relative to the national average.

NYT which I think could be described as friendly, has an in depth story on the Iowa results and their inaccuracies. Bernie seems to have given Iowa up as a bad job and moved on.

Re: 2020 Election
... after declaring victory based on the popular vote which, like the actual election, counts for nothing. The irony. Looks like he and Buttigieg will end up with the same number of delegates unless the whole thing gets thrown out. Which is quite likely. Really the only result of Iowa is that it may hasten Biden’s decline.
