There are millions more deserving refugees but they can't get to the border.
Are those the only ways to be persecuted?

The situation in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador clearly makes some from those countries eligible for asylum. And the fact that decades of US policy in those countries has been a major contributor to the instability in those countries should not be forgotten.

Over a hundred thousand a month seem to manage and that is with Trump strong arming Mexico to slow things down. There would be no such limitation under Warren, quite the opposite.

But her proposal to raise the refugee cap is good as it would also help the true political refugees (non-Central Americans) who can't reach a port of entry.

It would take a lot of stress out of the system as I am sure there are many waiting who could not travel independently.

I have no idea how they are allocated.

If anyone had any doubts that Trump is a racist, engaging in dog whistles, his latest tweet telling Ilhan Omar, Ocasio Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib to go back to their own countries should be proof enough.

Yes, this will hurt him, as it'll cause some people who give him the benefit of the doubt on racism to turn against him.

O’Rourke has never publicly shared the slave-owning story of some of his own family.

O’Rourke is listed as a member on Ancestry.com, where abundant documentation exists of his and his wife Amy’s ancestors’ slave-owning and their support for the Confederacy. In his writings and media interviews, however, O’Rourke has dealt only with kin who lived too late to have fought for the south in the American civil war, or to have been slave masters.

Did he not think this would come out?

Handled right, this could get him right back in the thick of things. America desperately needs some kind of truth and reconciliation, he has that opportunity.
“Yes,” he answered. “We must repair this country from its very founding: kidnapping people from west Africa, bringing them in bondage to literally build the wealth of the United States” and not allowing African Americans “to share in the fruits” of their ancestors’ labor.
A full accounting of this historical outrage was needed, O’Rourke said, adding: “Today, white America does not know this story.” A path to reparations, he said, will come only “through telling, learning and sharing this American story with everyone”.

I'd go along with that however is that what the American people as a whole really want. At the moment it really does seem not.

Not by a big margin but seems most Democrats do support Reparations, certainly Beto does. Mind you I can not see Beto lasting.

I think you meant to say, Democratic candidates. I doubt most registered democratic voters supporters do. At this stage, it's not about appealing to the majority, it's about appealing to a narrow base. aka Primary Politics.

2020 Democrats have started to clash over slavery reparations, but a new poll shows most liberals support the idea

I think it was this that was the basis of why I thought that.

I don't think it's a shock to anyone that he would hold such views - he appears to be digging a hole by suggesting it's OK to say it because other people think it as well. Now, I say hole, because that is what it usually would be, but his success has been in narrowing the ideological variations down to two sides, so those who support him would do so regardless of what he says, because they really do agree (and he knows the staunch Republicans are not going to vote Democrat). The question for 2020 is really about whether or not the Democratic candidate can rally the other side significantly on turnout, sort of like the mid terms. Independent's who haven't voted for Trump are never going to, so he cannot build his own "base". As much as I hate negative campaigns, and I think having one or two key ideas to vote for will be critical if the Democrats want to win, they may also have some success in stoking just the right amount of alternative fear - he's coming for YOU (like Republicans do on 2nd Amendment issues).
