Re: 2020 Election
Have you ever heard them say that they're being persecuted for fighting for freedom of the press, the release of political prisoners, .... ? They suffer from crime and poverty, true, but in the eyes of many countries that doesn't make them eligible to be accepted as refugees. There are millions more deserving refugees but they can't get to the border.
The situation in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador clearly makes some from those countries eligible for asylum. And the fact that decades of US policy in those countries has been a major contributor to the instability in those countries should not be forgotten.

But her proposal to raise the refugee cap is good as it would also help the true political refugees (non-Central Americans) who can't reach a port of entry.

I have no idea how they are allocated.

If anyone had any doubts that Trump is a racist, engaging in dog whistles, his latest tweet telling Ilhan Omar, Ocasio Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib to go back to their own countries should be proof enough.

O’Rourke has never publicly shared the slave-owning story of some of his own family.
O’Rourke is listed as a member on Ancestry.com, where abundant documentation exists of his and his wife Amy’s ancestors’ slave-owning and their support for the Confederacy. In his writings and media interviews, however, O’Rourke has dealt only with kin who lived too late to have fought for the south in the American civil war, or to have been slave masters.

Did he not think this would come out?

“Yes,” he answered. “We must repair this country from its very founding: kidnapping people from west Africa, bringing them in bondage to literally build the wealth of the United States” and not allowing African Americans “to share in the fruits” of their ancestors’ labor.
A full accounting of this historical outrage was needed, O’Rourke said, adding: “Today, white America does not know this story.” A path to reparations, he said, will come only “through telling, learning and sharing this American story with everyone”.

I'd go along with that however is that what the American people as a whole really want. At the moment it really does seem not.

I think you meant to say, Democratic candidates. I doubt most registered democratic voters supporters do. At this stage, it's not about appealing to the majority, it's about appealing to a narrow base. aka Primary Politics.

2020 Democrats have started to clash over slavery reparations, but a new poll shows most liberals support the idea

I think it was this that was the basis of why I thought that.
