Thai bank account

How easy is it to open a Thai bank account. I am considering retiring in Thailand in about 18 months and hopefully things will have returned to some sort of normality.

The practicalities of opening an account are easy, finding a bank willing to do it can be trickier. They all have their own preferences on what kind of visas, etc. they will accept, and what alternatives they will accept if they don't like your visa. (For example, some will accept a 1-year lease agreement if you only have a tourist visa.) You may have to shop around between branches and/or banks if you don't fit into the right box, but somewhere will do it. Bangkok Bank, SCB and Krungsri are all fairly foreigner-friendly. Branches in upmarket malls are more likely to have English speakers and be more familiar with the kind of paperwork foreigners can provide.
