Default Possible move to Bangkok

Hi all,

I am looking at a possible position based in Bangkok.

If anyone can assist with info, such as decent package etc. The position is for an MD with an International shipping company. It will be the wife, 13 year old daughter and me.

Cost of living , schooling cost etc.

Really info will be appreciated.

This is using Bhat for cost of living, Your daughter will need to go to a British school. your new company in 99% of circumstances will NOT pay schooling. School fees in Bangkok are more than in the Middle EastLiving Place

Monthly Costs Bangkok
Salary 200000 (you may be lucky to get more than this but highly unlikely)
Tax 34000
Rent 15000 (basic 2 bed decent area) 30000 with pool etc
Utility bills 3500
Cost of living 30000 (does not include nights out partying, price of a night out is similar to a U.K large town e.g 4GBP a drink, this is food etc and a meal out twice a month)
Transport 2000
Insurance & Pension 30000 (optional)
School Fees 35000
Savings 20500 - 5500 = 410-110 GBP savings a month

You give advice about living in Bkk but you do not know how to spell "Baht", the Thai currency. Odd.
I also don't agree with your rundown for living expenses.

What package does your prospective employer offer?
google e.g. Bangkok Pattana school to get an idea about schooling/fees. Google will give you more school options. Look at real estate agents to get an idea about rentals. Does employer provide car/driver? Do you get medical insurance paid?
You have to know what you want and what you are worth. Negotiate.

You can spend any amount you wish in Bangkok. Its generally much much more expensive living in the city these days than it used to be. Assuming you will want to live a generally expat lifestyle with the family don't expect to save much on 200K (as joshnarsu as pointed out).

It depends on the package you are offered, the old style expat packages which included perks are normally long gone but as an MD you may still get accommodation, vehicles, driver, etc perks.

I arrived in Bangkok 15 years ago on an expat package (not now though). I have lived in Bangkok the whole time and have to watch the outgoings, its not a cheap city anymore, costs quickly add up. If you are staying outside of the city the costs of living will be substantially lower though across the board. So check the location of the office on a map.
