Default Please help - trying to find a Father - poss died in Thailand

My husband is trying to find his father who he hasn’t seen for 30 years. We have had information that he passed away in Pattaya in Thailand approximately 5 years ago. Does anyone know if I can find this out?

Hi there.

On the slim off chance I will move this to the Thailand forum for you.

Firstly, although I doubt they'll do much, have you contacted the British embassy for any ideas about how to go about it?

Secondly, if your father died, then there will be a record of it.

I would suggest going to Thailand to the local district office (the amphur) with a Thai speaker and asking them to look in their records.

Thank you Nonthaburi. Yes I’ve contacted the British Embassy and you are right, they wasn’t very helpful. It’s finding the records that I am struggling with. I’m not even 100% that he has died. It’s just knowing where to turn next apart from jumping on a flight!!

The British embassy will have a record of it. Perhaps easiest to make a contact via foreign office. You could also post your question on thaivisa.com. This forum has a sub section Pattaya I think. There will be more people with "Thailand experience".

Maybe get in touch with a law company, Siamlegal are fairly reputable, and see what they suggest.

They will know what approach to take, and hopefully save you a flight.

Ask your MP to approach The Foreign Office.

Try a letter in the "Pattaya mail"newspaper. You could also contact the several Christian churchs in Pattaya.Maybe the Thai police have a record of foreigners who die for just this occasion?
