Pakistani Refugees
I heard a disturbing report on BBC Radio 4 yesterday. Pakistani Nationals enjoy visa-free travel to Thailand and as a result, large numbers of Christians from Pakistan head for Bangkok where they hope to get asylum. They do not have an easy time of it.
The Land established by Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Louis Mountbatten does not seem to be a comfortable place for minority religions. It makes India look truly multicultural. |

Re: Pakistani Refugees
No surprises there really. At least they're not trying to deliberately murder them as they did with the Rohingya.

Re: Pakistani Refugees
Most end up in immigration detention due to overstay of visa (30 days). Many are not Christians but pretend to be. This gets them more sympathy from Christian missions and churches. Most hope for resettlement in 3rd countries.

Then you will know it pretty well, I imagine.
I only lasted two and a half years in Phuket. Horses for courses and all that  |

Re: Pakistani Refugees
I have friends who have a place in Chiang Mai and who intend to retire there. I am afraid it would not be for me.

Re: Pakistani Refugees
I have two sets of friends who have moved to Chiang Mai in the last year or so, from Penang. One couple really love it. The other couple are talking of moving already :(
But that is the thing. We are all different and like different places. How boring the world would be if we were all the same. |

But that is the thing. We are all different and like different places. How boring the world would be if we were all the same. My husband dislikes living in Bkk since he retired. He loves cycling. Bkk is a traffic nightmare and cycling amongst this traffic is suicidal. Hubby never worked in Thailand. It is difficult for a guy to make social contacts. Much easier for a woman to find friends. We are thinking of moving back to Europe. Not sure where to? |
