Working in childcare/education - Brisbane
I have searched way back on here .... but can't find the answers for my specific query .... I hope someone can help
I'm here as a permanent resident (175) and have a NNEB and almost have a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies - which I complete in Dec 2010 (finishing it online). I know I cannot teach in state schools as my degree is a 3 year one and I am most interested in kindergarten or childcare. But where do I go next? Should I just apply to have my NNEB verified and go with that, aiming to get a job as soon as I can - or should I wait until my degree finishes and then get that assessed too? This means I won't work till March when my degree transcript is available. Although my OH is the main wage-earner and we came here on his application, I really want to be working and meeting people/settling down properly. Not really sure which way is the best way to go with this and hope some knowledgeable peeps can help

I was advised to wait (I'm in NZ) and get all my degrees assessed in one go BUT now that I'm here I think it may have been worth the extra $750 to get them assessed separately as it would really help to find temporary work whilst finishing the other course. I guess try to figure out if the NNEB will greatly increase your chances of employment to see if it's worth it? Good luck!

I have been also doing more searching tonight - AGAIN! Seem to be constantly on the net It seems I do not have to send off the form to verify my NNEB as it is on the list of approved qualifications (some old posts on BE seemed to confirm that too). Also, I cannot find anywhere that will allow me to apply for a Blue Card in advance (as they all ask for employers details). So I'm wondering if this means I can just apply for part-time work now on the strength of my NNEB. It seems I can then apply later for approval of my BA which will enable me to get a more senior role when my transcript comes through! Hope no-one comes along to tell me I've this all wrong

I know the feeling!!!!!!!!! I'm looking for furniture too (my house has only a washer & fridge) & can't really afford to spend ANY money until I have some work lined up so up til midnight last night scrolling through online classifieds that want me to place bids for my bed...
I got a blue card through a voluntary position I had - they did have to sign off on it if I recall, but it was free due to voluntary organisation - perhaps a way for you to get yours organised quickly too would be in initial voluntary positions?
Also not sure if you already mentioned but 1st Aid Cert might help? Particularly working with really young kids. They usually take a day or 2 days and are run by the Qld Ambulance or St John's pretty regularly around the place. I think mine cost about $150 but that was 10 years ago...bout time I brushed up on my skills I think!!!
