Re: WA - EBA4 Rural allowances.

Can anyone tell me if this payment is made fortnightly or yearly?
I think i read somewhere that this payment was linked into the subsidised housing payment as in this is how much they subsidise your housing by.

Can someone clear this up for me please as I am trying to work out my finances.

thanks

cheers Gems, you are quite literally a Gem

Re: WA - EBA4 Rural allowances.

Lee, it is tagged onto your salary, before tax, on a fortnightly basis - your housing subsidies is something totally different.

Not wanting to be awkward, but those figures aren't 100% correct. There are a few people who looked at these before we came out and got a bit of a shock to be told they were incorrect - some got more and some got less. My husband's school is not even on it - we get a mere $3000, but it is better than nothing as we were told we wouldn't get a thing.

All i would say is don't bank on the figure shown above, if you need to know, ask Sue! She also gave us links for tax calulators so we would know how much we were bringing in!

Hi Lee

You will hopefully have a session in Perth about salaries and allowances and meet personeel from payroll as well as someone discussing Super Annuation. The 3 days we had were extensive and covered a lot and proved to be very useful.

Re: WA - EBA4 Rural allowances.

Hi,
everyone gets subsidised rent if in GEHA housing. This didnt effect our pay/rural allowance.

When we lived further North we got the extra in our salary every fortnight (Its worked out over the year and added to normal pay).
Unfortunately hubbies current school is not on the list now:frown:
Due to new rules and it being classed as good school.

However we still get subsidised rent so paying about half the rent should be.
eg we pay $210 instead of $420.

Re: WA - EBA4 Rural allowances.

Does anyone have the correct list of allowances then please?

Gems Apr 30th 2009 6:07 pm

Re: WA - EBA4 Rural allowances.

This is correct list.
Changes were made before this list was published, I meant some schools in rural towns did not qualify for the extra money. But we still get housing allowance as in GEHA housing.
But have to say in our town 2 primary schools get nowt, and the rest get $7000 a year allowance!:frown:
Gov decided to make a few good schools not on the list, to ensure all schools in every town got teachers. However tad unfair for those of us who get nowt but still rural.
However have to admit hubby likes his school and we are happy to stay in our town even after 2 years.

Hi Gems,
Thanks for that. Kar-Kier in post No5 has said that people who looked at that list before they arrived were shocked as those amounts of allowances were not payable in some cases.

There was confusion in Perth in Jan 09.

Basically the figures Gems has put up were and are correct. Some who came out in Jan 09 thought they were getting more money than shown above because they were looking at older figures so there was some heated debate and discussion.

Basically, If you want more allowances request the schools and areas from the table above but realise there is a reason why you get more money. Look at a map and see where the nearest big town is or where the nearest mine is !

We get an additional $5000 paid every 2 weeks. I live in the same place as Gems. Her OH gets nothing additional !!!!!! Others here teaching in other schools get the same as me. I know that my school had to fight to get the extra allowances as the school was not originally on the list !!

Friends in Moora get $5000, Karratha $7312, Wickham $9300.

In Moora there is 1 IGA (Spar) shop. Nearest supermarket is 2hrs drive away. Shop closes 5pm Saturday re-opens Monday. Need milk you pay double at a shack that acts as a store if local garage is closed.

Karratha has more shops including a Coles (Tesco type) but is mining area so prices in shops higher as even now despite recession mine workers paid big bucks !!

Wickham - well not alot there. Allowance being used to pay for new 4x4 to drive from Karratha to Wickham.

Until you know where you are being placed and in which school (we found out 1st Dec 2008 1 month before arriving) then you can't use the figures as accurately as you would like. Ball park figures on no allowance, minimum and max !

Also as Kareena has stated many times.....they get no subsidised housing ! They had to find their own accommodation and pay full market rental prices !

Hope that helps

You can ask ! You might not get ! Depends how they allocate.

Usually your details are put into a computer system and a school is matched with what you can offer and what they want. Jan 09 arrivals were placed manually as there were so many of us.

In DET WA land you are a number whether you are Australian or other! None of us have nor will you have a permanent teaching post therefore you could receive a letter telling you to go to anywhere during the period of time you are contracted. They do try to keep you in the same place if at all possible.
