Default WA DET 457 January 2009 intake full!

June 25, 2008

Hi,

I have just been informed by a poster on British Expats that the Western Australia Department of Education and Training January 2009 regional sponsorship 457 program is now full!

In short, I have been told there are no more vacancies for January 2009.

I am a bit disappointed as I was hoping to have a chance to go and teach in a rural school in WA in January.

If anyone else is thinking of applying to teach in a rural school in WA in January, 2009, then they might wish to bear this in mind.

Kind Regards,

Gary

Hi,

I received the message from a poster on British Expats today.

His profile name is leeh36.

He has posted quite a few times on this section of British Expats.

You can search for posts under his id to see where he is up to with his visa application process.

He has sent me a few messages in the past. He is also looking to go to WA in January 2009 to teach in a rural school. Same as me. But he got told today from WA DET that January 2009 is now full.

You could message him if you like for more detail.

Kind Regards,

Gary

Is this the whole list is full?

Or is it certain specialist teaching areas are full?
They are getting a lot more interest now and its possible they are getting too many applicants for a particular subject

I would not pull out of applying unless you have heard about your particular application.

I would certainly not suggest that anybody did not continue with their application either. As for specifics, I am as much in the dark with the DET as ever.

The pm was sent from myself to Gary as we are in the same position as wanting to go out in Jan 09 to teach maths and I believe that I am only just infront of him with the process.

I received an offer of interview for October and asked the DET if this was for a Jan 09 start. They replied that the visa batch for the Jan start was now closed and my application will now apply to the July09 or Jan 10 start.

I know how difficult info is to come by as I asked the question about when to apply back in february and got no replies to my numerous emails to the DET. The only suggestion that I got from this forum was to wait until June to apply.

My waiting around has now resulted in a delayed interview and me missing the Jan 09 start.

I did not post onto the forum as I was only passing this info onto someone who was in exactly the same position as me and expecting a Jan 09 start like myself.

Everyone wishing to enrol on the programme should keep going but be aware that there are timescales in place.

Hello,

Sorry you have missed the Jan start. They must be getting way more applicants now.

One thing I would say is we arrived in July, and it was really good time to start as weather was cooler so easy to adapt to climate. Flights over to Australia were cheaper (December/Jan expensive for flights). So some benefits of coming in July.

Usually they take teachers in Jan, start July and start of October this is during kids school holidays.

Im sure you will make the next start date.

Gems
PS Maths is a shortage subject so Im surprised they have held you back.

When we came, from enquiring about the scheme and arriving in Perth was a total of 8 weeks
So the visa doesnt take long.

The visa actually only took 4weeks and thats for a big family.
However think they have alot of interested teachers now as they do the London and Manchester expo etc.

Sorry to any of you who might not make your desired date of Jan 09.

Interest in the scheme really does seem to have peaked recently. Since I've made it public knowledge in my school that I am going, I've had about 6 members of staff ask for details!

Conditions are not great in UK teachong at the moment, and where I am (regional Scotland) progression is particularly poor, there are few jobs and attitudes (in my authority anyway) are insular.

Remember that what will be will be, sometimes these delays and things happen for a reason.

Thanks Roamer,

We've resigned ourselves to the fact now that it will be a July start for us if we are successful.

It gives us a bit more time to try to save anyway.

Has anyone else had a date for interview yet?
