VIF Program:Ways to stay on at the end of your placement?
Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie here so while I have had a look for threads regarding my question with no luck I might have missed a previous post,so apologies if I have.
I was hoping someone could help with some info on the VIF program, their website states that their placements are for a maximum three years and if you are looking for something longer do not apply, however does anyone know if you can apply to stay in the US if for example the school wants to keep you on and is willing to sponsor you.Does the fact that you got into the country on a J-1 visa preclude you from getting a more permanent type of visa? Hope someone out there can help-you seem like a pretty knowledgeable bunch!
Many thanks in advance.

I did VIF 5 years ago, so my info may be a bit out of date, but the situation was that the schools are competely banned from employing you beyond the end of your 3 years. However, I did meet one ex VIFer who was working in a private school in Chicago, VIF had done there best to scupper his plans, but he got the job independently of them.

I was in Gwinnett County, about 1/2 hour from Atlanta, Georgia. My school (an Elementary) were fantastic and very supportive - donating me furniture, inviting me for dinner etc.
VIF do what they promise, but little else, don't expect to be spoonfed.
All in all I had a fantastic time, and it has given me a real wanderlust, hence now moving to Oz.
It was great to have a 3 day weekend and to be able to get a cheap flight to Chicago or New York, or drive to Florida - nothing beats it.
If you want any more info feel free to send me a PM
