Teaching in Australia

Hi,

Me and my partner are considering moving to Western Australia, I am a current serving police officer in the Uk and considering applying to WA police who will sponsor my Visa

My partner is a dual Uk / Australian national and therefore doesn't need a visa. She graduated from University with a 3 year Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She is now completing a 1 year 'Schools Direct'. She will soon have her Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) status and has a full time salaried Secondary school English position for the next school year. After that year she will have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Whilst we are not looking to move over for at least 12 months the recruitment process for my police application begins now so I would like to know if my partners qualifications are recognised and will she be able to continue her teaching career in Australia should I be accepted?

Any advice would be appreciated
Many Thanks

Hi there and welcome to BE :welcome:

Can't help on the teacher qualification, but if you are both considering moving to Australia, has your partner considered sponsoring you for a spouse visa?

Thanks for the reply, hadn't considered a Spouse Visa before, I see that it will allow me to work but I believe I wouldn't be able to apply to transfer into the police until I have permanent residency which will take a couple of years?
Do you know what kind of work I will be able to do on a spouse visa?
Thanks again, more options the better :-)

You can work at just about anything with only one or two exceptions which are restricted to citizens (think defence and federal police types of work). There's a main Oz forum if you haven't found it - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54 for more general info, and the visas section has threads on spouse visas :)
