Default Secondary School Science - Melbourne (City)

Hi All,

My Fiance and I are currently looking in to Emigrate to Australia in 2012 and have been reading pages and pages of info on the web with limited success. Hopefully you will be able to help with a few questions that we have:

First the bit about us with regards to occupations and experience etc -

I am a Secondary School Science (Physics) teacher and will have 2 years post qualified experience by June 2012. I graduated with a 2:1 in Anatomy and Physiology then completed a Physics enhancement course to allow me to teach Physics as my specialism. I then completed my PCGE in Physics and have been teaching Secondary School / A level since June 2010.

My Fiance is slightly easier. He is a Human Resources professional who graduated with a 2:1 in Business Studies and is qualified in Human Resources via the CIPD / Post Graduate Diploma. He has 5 years experience working in HR and is currently at an advisor level (not a manager).

1. We are hoping to leave the UK in June 2012 and travel Asia for 4 - 6 months arriving in Melbourne around October-November 2012. From what we have read, we are thinking that applying for the 176 Skilled Migrant Visa would be best - Secondary School Science teacher on the SOL (presuming this is still on there). My fiance (then husband) would be able to apply on my Visa also.

2. Presuming we applied for the above visa, from what I have read I think this would need to be sponsored by Victoria state (Correct?). If so does this restrict where I can work in Victoria or where I can look for teaching positions in Victoria, as given my fiances profession we would need to be located in Melbourne city - not out in the sticks.

3. By coming in a a 176 visa would I be able to apply for state schools and private schools permanently or are there further restrictions around this?

4. I've heard on the grapevine that there is additional training that needs to be undertaken when arriving in Australia; does anyone have further info on this? Presumably this is done by VIT?

5. For those working and teaching in Melbourne city - what is the general feeling about Secondary School Science jobs - are they available given the profession is on the SOL. I am aware I will need to put the leg work in but wanted to see if they are around or like gold dust?

6. I know we are not planning on leaving the UK for over 12 months, but is now about a good timescale to start our visa applications? presuming you all dont find gaping holes in our plan

That's all for now - Many Thanks

G&L

If you want to apply for a 175 then you don't need sponsorship, that would be the 176. I think (my impression) that your time scale is a bit tight, I don't think that you will be able to get a 175 within a year, that is the time for a 176!!!! Don't know what you got mixed up, maybe just mentioned the wrong visa subclass number.
About extra training I don't know and I am not UK trained, but I got my full registration with VIT, so I assume that I don't need any further training and can start teaching as soon as I get the visa and go there. But as I said I am not UK trained, I got a skills assessment from teach australia and needed to get VIT registration, which meant nearly another skills assessment, but that was for VIC sponsorship.
