Default How would I get a teaching job once i'm there?

Hi there, here's another of my many posts!! lol

So, assuming everything will be fine with my skills assessment and visa and I manage to get to Aus in November 2010 like we're hoping, how do I actually go about getting a job?

The process here is find a job advertised online and send a cv, covering letter and application form to the school but I know it's different in Aus. I heared that private schools have a different way of doing it too.

Someone told me that I need to apply to something (can't remember the name) and they place you in a school but they'll probably place you in the middle of nowhere.

My Auntie lives on the Gold Coast, about half an hour from Surfers Paradise and the plan is to get a place near them, so I dnt really want a job hundreds of miles from the coast . I know it's really difficult getting a job too so I may need to do supply for a while.

So, How would I apply for jobs? and how would I join a supply agency? I'm with Hays Education at the moment and was going to ask them if they work in Australia too!

Hope someone can help!!

bev xx

try select education too, they specialise in putting overseas teachers in private schools.
when i visited aua a few years back i was offered a job in a private school simply cos they could not find an ICT teacher. you might get lucky, email as many schools as you can with your c.v. see what the response is, nothing ventured and all that.

If you're planning on working in the state sector, then you need to apply to education queensland. You need to provide documents to demonstrate your previous employment etc.

You'll also need to register with the queensland college of teachers (i think its called this).

Once you've done all that (start the process about 4-6months before you go) you'll be given permission to teach. they way I went about getting a job was the supply route first. I sent my Cv to all local schools I was prepared to travel to. Some schools organize their own supply others use a central system (and I'm not sure if you have to apply to this too...sorry i've been out of the country for a while). With all the long service leave, schools often have contracts that last a few weeks or months available.

The other route is to apply for a permenant position, but as you will be moving in november most positions will be filled, but there are some that are filled over the holidays due to all the internal shuffling. The problem with going down this route is you are at the liberty of EdQLD and if they offer you a school in woopwoop and you say no you are put down on the bottom of the list. You can designate the areas you are willing to work in, but remember most people want to work in the highly populated areas, so the more country you're prepared to go the better the chance.

Also your teaching area will have an impact on the likelyhood of getting a position supply or full time.

Good luck
