Default how does maternity leave affect application

Hello everyone

we are thinking of applying for australia, but i have just had 6 months maternity leave, and i have been informed that this will disqualify us because i would nt have worked 12 out of the last 18 months. does this sound right , do we have to wait another 12 months before applying.. aghhh

and if we do can i still go ahead and get my quals assessed so its all ready for next feb.
thanks

Andrea

Yes, you can get your skills assessment from TeachingAustralia.edu.au without recent work experience.

I believe also that maternity leave can be counted in the 12 months recent work experience provided it is part of ongoing employment.

Good luck.

Hello
im jason andreas husband, thanks for the info, do you know how long an assessment form teaching australia lasts for( is valid), we were just wondering if andrea gets assessed in the next few months would it still be valid if we aplly next feb( feb 08),
we have been advised by an agency that because andrea has had 6 months maternity that we should nt apply until she has worked another year ( very confusing) which would make it next feb, but we wanna get things moving so was wondering if we should get her quals certified.

hope it all makes sense..
jason

Hi Jason.

The teaching skills assessment is valid for 1 year, and at the moment takes approximately 6-8 weeks to get the final assessment back.

Does Andrea have a PGCE or 3 or 4 year BEd?

Regarding maternity leave, it seems that it can be counted:

Finally, I don't know if you have signed up with an agency yet, but the teaching skills assessment is very straightforward and if its a simple visa application I would maybe consider doing it yourself .
