Help...infor needed STNI Victoria/Secondary education
Really need help. Was delighted when I found out I could apply for an STNI visa for Victoria. I am a secondary teacher with a specialism in Food which they have listed as in demand.
I filled in my form and sent if off 2 days aga online.
Just got an e-mail this morning stating:
Thank you for sending us your STNI application form, unfortunately your
skills are not currently listed on our STNI Eligibility List.
I don't know what to do. I have checked the up to date list and my job is definitely on there.
Any advice?

Your job is there:
2413–11 Secondary School Teacher Must have skills/experience in:
• Information Technology (IT); or • Mathematics; or
• Physics (7-10); or • Physical Education
• Technology Studies – Metal, Wood, Automotive, Food/Hospitality
We've also applied for the STNI for Victoria under this job. Did you use "Technology Studies" with a specialisation of Food/Hospitality?
I'd get back in touch to confirm. Also, have you registered with VIT? We've just been asked for our confirmation from VIT before they can proceed with the application.
If you need any more help (it's a bit limited!) PM me.

Thanks for your advice.
I actually stayed up last night to call them, and they said they would look into it. I now have a new e-mail saying they are dealing with my application and will get back to me within 8 weeks (how long did yours take?)
When you say they have asked for you to register with VIT, have you had your skills assessed already by teach australia (previously NOOSA)?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Re: Help...infor needed STNI Victoria/Secondary education
Hi Stella
Hubby had his skills assessed by Teach Australia around October, they took about 6 weeks. Just before Christmas we applied for STNI and VIT. 2 weeks ago we were told the VIT had been approved and confirmation is on the way (STILL waiting!), STNI are waiting to process our application once they have the VIT confirmation, we've been told 7 days AFTER they get VIT we'll have a response. So in total they probably have taken around 8 weeks.
The big problem we've come up against is that Victoria don't recognise my degree. It's a BSc (Hons) with QTS but only took 3 years to complete, hubby has a BEd which took 4 years so he's ok. I'd have to go back to Uni for another year to be able to teach - not something I'm ready to do at the mo! I teach food so I'm hoping that once we get out there, as it's a shortage subject, I should be able to get plenty of supply work????
Good luck, if we find anything else out we'll keep you posted!
Take care.

I would agree with this, particularly for secondary schools. I have however been looking at jobs available and there seem to be loads that are really well paid $75k plus per year that are in further eductaion colleges; these are teaching chef skills, front of house stuff etc. They do not require a teaching qualification, just experience in the relevant field.

Hi True blue
Have been speaking to my friend in melbourne today who I used to work with in my school in the UK. She says the schools are so desparate for foodies that they would probably take you even with the 3 year training...will keep you posted if I find anything else out.

Just hopping on this post with questions about STNI nomination.
How far did you ahve to go to prove employability? Read a post from Bexie where she has even had to apply for jobs before hand - is this the norm?
