Default Getting a teaching job in Alberta, Canada

Hi
Wondering if there is anyone out there who can pass on advice or experience about trying to get work as a teacher in Alberta!
Am emigrating this summer with husband who is joining Calgary Police Service. I am a UK qualified primary school teacher with a 4 year degree and 11 years experience.
Have looked at the official sites and Alberta teachers association sites but there is so much info don't know where to start.
From people that we have met and spoken too and from threads on here it seems that it is not easy to get in to teaching and get a permanent job through the school board, have read that it could take up to 5 years to get to that point after alot of substitute teaching. Many teachers that we have heard of accompanying spouses to Alberta seem to have gone to work in private tutoring and learning centres.
Any advice would be appreciated! May make the decision as to turn my back on teaching for good easier!

Be patient and expect the certification process to take some time. Don't give up too easily. You will be successful in the end.

Look for all of the documentation you'll need on the government's Alberta Education - Teacher Certification web site. Gather up everything you'll need before you move because it will only be more difficult and take longer when you're in Alberta.

When you get your certification, show the same patience in looking for a job. If you have any specialties such as French, Music, or Special Education, use them. They'll help you to stand out from the pack. Without such specialties, expect to work as a substitute for a certain period of time before getting a full-time continuing position. How long will depend on your abilities, connections and luck. Treat every day you work as a substitute as if it were a job interview. Just like the certification process, it will all work out in the end.
