FAO : GEMS
Hi Gems,
I read on a previous thread that you went to WA on a sponsorship visa. My husband and I are looking to move to the Pilbara soon with WA ED. Could you please give us the name of the contact who helped facilitate your move?
Looking forward to your reply.
Nat

Hi again Gems,
Just another question: Did you have all your academic transcripts, police checks, etc prior to applying for the visa? How long did the application take from when you submitted the information?
Thanks again.

Hello,
Jobs in this scheme can be any place from Esperance up to Pilbara or Kimberly. Dont know anyone who has gone to Kimberly though.
We didnt have any of the documents sorted when we first enquired, so was a mad dash to get everything sorted.
you need to have to make sure you have transcripts for your teaching qualification and degree. This is to register with WACOT to be able to teach in WA. They wont accept just the certificate, so if you have not got them start contacting the Universities for them now. As ours took lots of phone calls.
Police check takes 40 days and you will need this for WACOT. So request this now, but we had done the visa before we had got the police check as took so long.
Also reference from your current employer.
We also had to provide a document for each employer if we wanted the right payscale. This is on headed paper, signed and stamped in bullet form list saying job title, full timer/part time, any time off unpaid, stuff like this. Otherwise payroll will put you on newly qualified!
Everything is done fairly quickly, the WACOT registration is done via the Education department so you do this mid way when they supply you with WACOT contact.
Our visa only took 4 weeks, may have been quicker but had to wait for medical appointments.
Whole process from enquiry to flying out took about 8 weeks!
will pm you the contact info

PS, so far they have took teachers on in January, July and start of October.
Usually doing the 3 day course during a 2 week school holiday. So you can start for the new term.
However as its a fairly new scheme and as interest grows they may do it more times a year. But not sure.

Hi Gems,
Thank you so much for that info....it certainly is helpful.....I have already requested my police checks and transcripts...just another question: Did Wacot want all your transcripts or just the final year's ones?
Thanks again.
