Change teaching qualification
 

We live in WA and my wife is a 4 year BEd trained Secondary School PE Teacher, she graduated in 1993 and taught full-time in the UK until we emigrated in Jan of this year. She has been doing some relief tecahing but is desperate to get back into full-time work which is proving very difficult for a PE teacher aas it is a job everyone wants to do. She wants to retrain in either another subject (in demand) or as a primary school teacher. Has anyone done this, she obviously does not want to do another 4 year degree and she is an excellent teacher so does not need any training in that aspect it is just purely subject knowledge that she needs. Has anyone done a similar thing??

Not sure, but I know DET just did a course for Secondary teachers to convert to Primary teachers. Too many Secondary teachers as of next year, hence they have decided to do this for the existing state teachers.

Otherwise the only thing I can think of is PGCE Primary distance learning.
Check out Open Universities, Geraldton campus, or other WA Unis.
Ask if they will give you credit for your existing qualifications.
I think you will need to contact them and ask, it may shorten the course for you.

Go for the Primary asap, as Ive heard redundancies likely in State Primary. So you will have more competition for the Secondary jobs.

Australia has had baby boom, and so the next few years they will be streaming into Primary.

Ps, Curtin Uni do the placements in local school. Hubby just mentored a student last term.

are you in Perth?

Mate of mine got a job in PE last year in Perth. He tried State but no chance so went with an indie and got a job with first application.
