average teaching salary compared to UK?

Deciding to give up two well paid (relatively speaking) jobs and little in the way of travelling costs, along with a good house in a lovely part of the country to go to Oz!
There is a risk that one of us will find a job and the other won't unless it means travelling some distance or only having a temporary contract. We are trying to work out how better/worse off we could be.... so what is the average teaching salary? where do we stand with present incrament levels? would we have to start at the bottom over there?

This should tell you everything.

Highly likely one of you or maybe even both of you will struggle to gain employment, but depends on what age groups you teach. Temporary teaching can be rife in certain areas but you've not specified where you're looking at going.
Oh you also need to know if you can pass skills recognition. wouldn't worry too much about what you earn as it's hard to put it in perspective to lifestyle and expected living standards when not actually in Australia

Well i am not sure about the rest of australia but in SA the salary is comparable if not better than UK - well it is for primary teachers- the only problem is that there aren't a great deal of jobs around unless you are prepared to do a couple of years country service.
if you do decide to come make sure you get your head to do a statement of service saying how long you have worked and in what capacityetc so that they can calculate your pay scale - otherwise you start at the bottom!!
