Any British teachers teaching In NY ??
Hi all,
What a great site this is, just found it by mistake. Anyhow I am a qualified primary teacher in England and now live in NY. I have found out that we should be able to get a conditional initial certificate based on reciprocity to teach in public schools in New York.(we must do the state exams within 2 years) I finally, after being fobbed off enough times, got into see someone in the NY Ed - Sam very helpful. However he showed what was needed to get this conditional certificate and it basically talked about a degree and then a higher diploma ??? I explained to be able to teach in England that you either get a BA with qts and teach for a year or do a BA in something else and then PGCE and then a year to become qualified. He has passed my details on , yet to hear.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can teach here as it is doing my head in. Every time I call the NY ed they tell me something different if they bother to answer the phone at all. I am getting very fed up and just want to get back in a class. I have even thought of trying New Jersey instead maybe they are more helpful ?
Thanks Elaine
