Advice please from Queensland Teachers

I am hoping some of you can advise.

I'm looking into doing a Primary Teaching degree on the Gold Coast, we're based here at the moment and as teaching is something I'd like to do I think now might be the time so I can hopefully graduate and start working when my youngest goes to school. The thing is from what I've looked at so far on the internet there seems to be a glut of primary teachers at the moment and finding a job as a recent graduate seems to range from difficult to near impossible depending on who you listen to. Obviously there seems little point in studying for a particular degree if the likelihood of getting work at the end of it isnt good. So I was hoping some of you currently working here at the moment could let me know your opinions on the availability of jobs specifically on or close to the gold coast.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Not in Queensland. However hubby is a Primary teacher in WA, and it had huge shortage of Primary teachers when we arrived just over 3 years ago.

Now they have too many Primary teachers and no shortage. No jobs in the state sector.

Primary has now been taken of immigration list, as they say no shortage.

Basically from what he has heard Primary teaching is getting more and more difficult to get a job in. In our opinion you would be safer doing High School PGCE.

Unfortunately Primary School Teachers aren't in demand ANYWHERE, we're ten a penny! Back home in NI there were hundreds applying for any jobs that were advertised and it's become fairly obvious with recent changes to the SOL, that PS Teachers are no longer in demand here in Oz as it's since been removed from the list! I'm not going to advise you to instead chose secondary, as in all honesty, if I could turn the clock back ten years, I'd never have entered teaching in the first place as it's just such an exhausting, neverending job, but hey ho that's just my opinion! Good luck in whatever you decide though... :fingerscrossed:
