Re: 457 October Interviews

So if you stay in a country school for say 5 years, would our rent be subsidised for those 5 years or only for the first 2?
Now I'm confused:confused:

thanks

Re: 457 October Interviews

You would get subsidised rent for the entire time you were living in a GEHA house(Education supplied housing) as long as its in a rural town.

So in theory, yes if you work in a rural town for 5 years, you would get subsidised rent for the full 5 years. If you want to stay permenant in GEHA rural house you would always get subsidised rent forever in theory. Again must be rural town.

It has to be GEHA supplied housing, this can be houses they own. Or in our case GEHA leases from private landlord. You are normally given the property by GEHA, and rent comes out of your salary each fortnight.

If you buy a house in your rural town, you are no longer eligable for GEHA housing and reduced rent.

Yes, you keep subsidised rent even if you are PR if your working in a country school.
Dont think you get subsidised rent if your working in say Perth suburbs (but this would not be on scheme any way).

Only reason you wont get rental help is if you buy, so your liable for your full mortgage. No additional help for mortgages.

So i think the best option for us would be getting out there on 175 visa and getting job out there, the subsidised housing would be a huge plus as it would help us save a bit of money:thumbsup:

After the 4 weeks waiting after interview, if the have you are successful do they tell you then where they would want you to go, or do they wait till you get there?

They let you know where shortly prior to you leaving UK.

We got name of town and even the address of the house before we left Europe.
In fact we even got sent a picture of the house.

Is there anything I could glean from you regarding the 457 primary teaching interview? Interviews for posts here in the UK are nerve wracking enough, without the added pressure of a life changing decision on top! I have one tomorrow in Leeds. I am assured it is very informal, but am still so very anxious  Any advice greatly appreciated :D

OH had hers last week she said the main things she was asked about were planning, assessing, reporting and another question was about how you (and your family if you have one) would integrate in a new community,

hope this helps and good luck tomorrow:thumbsup:

Thanks for the info. Along the lines of what I thought but it's that word 'interview' that strikes the fear of god into me every time! Anyway this time tomorrow it'll be all over (or just beginning ):D

My OH has one tomorrow morning. When we spoke to lady interviewing her, seemed pretty relaxed, 20 minutes and it's all over
Not looking forward to the 4 week wait I have to admit

Well I have to say that following an interview - it was very relaxed but also the interviewier knew exactly what they were after. I really dont think it mattered how many people knew what the questions were going to be, or how nervous you were. Just so long as you were honest about your teaching. I was told that all paperwork had to be back in Perth before a decision would be made and that there were hundreds of interviews taking place.... hence the minimum of a 4 week wait as the interview team were moving around UK for a month. Seems if all your qualification checks and references have been sorted by the time the interview results get back to Perth, the quicker you will know. Fingers crossed for everyone!!

Hello :D. Interview was relaxed and informal and had a great chat at the end of the questions. All my paperwork was done earlier this month so there should be no hold ups when back in Perth hopefully.

Well done everyone who had interviews.
Dont forget to let us all know what town you get allocated.

For those coming in January, it was 37C in the mid west the last two days! So Ive been sitting with air con on all day. So start buying those shorts and summer clothes.

had my interview on Monday, bit of a stressful start as the hotel staff didnt bother to tell the interviewers that myslef or another person had arrived,(we were both 45mins early as well!!!) so the interview ended up starting 15mins late. Interviewer was lovely and put me completly at ease, real credit to how they do it. Allowed to elaborate,(waffle) on all answers which made the experience seem more like two teachers talking rather than an interview. Still nervous though , you never know what they are looking for, hopefully I tick all their boxes. Roll on four weeks, then if we are put fwd for sponsership the real panic will set in!!!!!

Could mean teacher registration number? There's so many different acronyms that it's difficult to remember them all - just like in UK teaching

roamer25 Oct 22nd 2008 7:22 am

Re: 457 October Interviews

Hey all,

TRN is nothing to do with teaching - It's your Transaction Reference Number, i.e. your visa number.

DIAC = Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Re: 457 October Interviews

Ok, thanks for clearing that up then. Although strictly speaking in the UK TRN does mean teacher reference number, according to the GTCE. It used to be the DFES number. It is also the code for Turin International Airport. Could also be Talk Radio Network in USA. Although here it is clearly an Australian reference.

I wonder in what way sarcastic, incorrect ramblings are deemed helpful to the questions you had asked?

Let's recap:
You two were trying to guess what TRN meant, after a very helpful post from lekklizard. I told you so you didn't have to wonder any more. A helpful act, leaving you more informed about this complicated process (the end of which I am near).

I was then treated to a sarcastic barrage for my troubles.
I replied there was no need. And there isn't.

No one was correcting you, no one said anything bad. There really was no need for any of the sark.

If you find being rude to people who give you information funny - I thank God I have a better sense of humour than you!

Gosh lee36 I do hope you were joking when you asked about travel expenses! You are talking about a government department you know - and they might have sent interviewers half way round the world, but I bet they arent doing it business class!

Good luck with the interview - and I suggest a tie with the board shorts just to show you know how to dress to impress!

Chocs and Aus_bound,
I understand you are terribly excited about the application but whether intended or not you were both quite rude. Remember online you have to write much more carefully to create the right sort of tone, especially with people you don't know.

Thanks derekgoforth for the comments.

Now let that be the end of it. (considers lols and PMSLs and rofls here)

Best of luck to you all with the application process - it was a year ago this week that I applied and in a couple of months I will be winging my way there.
So bear in mind it's a long, long road, that suddenly speeds up a few weeks before you go.

Right now - those going in Jan have their medicals done, their shipping booked (my boxes got collected last week), their documents ready and we are just waiting for the Department of Education (DET) to get our Visa numbers (TRNs) from the Dept of immigration and Citizenship so we can do our E-Visa applications.
We are starting to get information from DET about various things which we will need to do during our first couple of weeks and expect to be assigned our posts in the next 3 weeks or so.

It's unfortunate that because of the current economy, some applicants have had to delay their journey due to their house not selling in time.
But DET have been good about it and moved their start date to the next batch.

Hey Derek,
The doctor more or less said to me on the day that all seemed OK, but that she couldn't speak for the Sydney office. Immigration only contact you if there's a problem. 6 weeks on and I've heard nothing so I've been told that means not to worry! The DET have to begin (nominate) our visas with DIAC and they can only do this once the medicals are OK'd.
We're expecting out visas to be started any day now so I'd say you'd know within 4 weeks if there was an issue.

Sorry roamer, but my wife is very capable of writing her own posts and does so. You seem to assume I'm sat here posting with her, just to assure you doesn't happen.
Tone was light hearted, I failed to see what was to be taken as rude? Maybe you need to not over read into things, as is an iternet forum and yes is for information, but can't be a serious tone in every post.
For my posts I honestly couldn't believe your reply to her! Nice welcome to BE for her!
But all water under the bridge now.
I wish you well on your way to Aus

The visa is very quick, the education department told us when we applied if it was too slow they have some clout in pushing it through on time.
Think ours took 3 or 4 weeks in total (but didnt have medicals done before hand as educ sponsorship scheme was very fast then).

Yes, its very stressful doing your visa and moving to the other side of the world. But hey lets keep it friendly on here:)
