I thought that he would be found "not guilty" of murder, but that they would find him guilty of manslaughter. The verdict blew me away. Sometimes I really hate living in this country.

The only thing that trial proved was that no-one could prove what happened one way or the other. Don't see how the jury could reach any other verdict than the one they did.

I thought the same...I expected a verdict of manslaughter.

Again...I agree...but I did expect a guilty of manslaughter verdict.

I'm not sure if I am more surprised or bemused.

And some people do feel threatened when they see a black man.

Crazy, crazy law.

I agree about the law.

The only things 100% true in this case:

1) A 17 year old is dead
2) The prosecution didn't prove, without doubt, that Zimmerman didn't shoot in self defense.

Maybe he would have been convicted in other jurisdictions but in Florida - no eye-witnesses and the shooter has head injuries? A traffic lawyer could have defended Zimmerman!

Before everyone gets carried away, remember, the State brought the prosecution, against the odds, under pressure of public opinion. Originally the cops let it go as a justifiable/self defense. And so it was...
