But you can immediately see why it's important for people to have one of these in order to be free.
Gun control did not work in this situation. , US federal law prohibits possession of firearms by those who have been dishonorably discharged[18] per the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Idiotic tosser
President Donald Trump, on a tour of Asia, said the gunman was "a very deranged individual" and denied that guns were to blame for the shooting.
"We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, but this isn't a guns situation," he said.

Trump also said that it was fortunate that someone was shooting back, the ‘perp’ may have died of injuries from a local who shot back, or may have killed himself.

You cant avoid the statement that people not guns kill people, the issue is that america lets anyone have one. The uk has very strict laws and reasonable checks, but theres still the occasional one that slips through, and if you are legal the number of guns you can own is only limited by your security arrangements and whether you might actually need it [where were you going to shoot pidgeons with that .308 sir? [.50 are allowed but very few ranges allow them]]

It comes up every time after a mass murder by gun. I could spit every time I see that stupid cliche 'guns don't kill, people kill'.

People with guns kill.

Not quite the same though - apart from the checks on licensing, gun owners are liable to visits to check security of storage and/or may be required to leave guns at a gun club.

Carrying a weapon (other than for transportation) is illegal - no civilian may carry offensive weapons in the UK under any circumstances (concealed or otherwise). In particular, pistols are prohibited (unless you think a muzzle-loading black powder pistol counts) and anyone sentenced to prison for more than three months is banned from holding firearms for 5 years from release (or for life if jailed for over 5 years).

None of this means that people don't carry or use guns - but there is a mandatory 5 year sentence if caught.

So, you CAN have a weapon in the UK, but good luck with that.

What do you mean it didn't work? There is no gun control in this country. Anyone can easily get one - or 20 - irrespective of anything else they might have done and legally or not.

There simply isn't enough political, public, and economic will to change and the culture is now impregnated with violence. I expect it will get worse before/if it gets better.

And - the underlying culture is radically different.

The legal ones - which shall we go shopping for today?

And when you think of it, if you are running a mental hospital would you let all the patients have guns?

Or, if you had a few spare guns lying about would you donate them to the local psychiatric hospital?

What - the people with a few spare guns have a right to donate them to the local psychiatric hospital?

As long as the doctors, nurses and neighbours have guns as well so they can attempt to kill any patients who give trouble, sure, why not?
