Why do we need to hang on to NI, anyhow?

Apart from the otherwise-extinction of NI-based/landed aristocrats' seats in the HoL, why can't we let go of NI?

Maybe you can find one of some crickets.

It is entertaining...

By the way, if any of the "others" are going to leave the union, NI would have the easiest job it by far. Probably the first to go if England screws this up.

We shall see...

Ask a Belfast Protestant.

It's 2019, not 1970.

Well it seems to me that that would've been a good idea back in the 1970s, but it's now 50yrs later. What are they scared of now, RC priests & their fixation on living Baby Jesuses?

It's past time to leave NI go, I think. No deafeningly good reasons to hang on to it on here, so far. And too much inbreeding can't have been good for them.

Perhaps these articles might shed some light or not

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...iday-agreement

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/worl...tion-1.3713535

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/02/o...-unionism.html

How Northern Ireland voted in the EU referendum – and what it means for border talks

Of course, those of us who do not live in NI don't really understand how they feel or what they want.

Thanks for those articles, & yet there's still not one solitary good rational reason why we need NI now. Their Old Guard seem to feel somehow uniquely entitled on Earth to be able to have their cake & eat it, too. Eire isn't the poverty-stricken disease-&-parasite ridden mudhole that we were told it was at school in England growing up. One begins to suspect that certain selfish vested interests (e.g., HoL seats & privileges) aren't going to sack themselves.

All that would be needed now is a bunch of mp's no one recognises to walk through last, against the deal lobby on 20th and the house realises in horror that Sinn Fein just turned up and left. A foaming house, with DUP and Maybot looking daggers at each other for nor seeing this coming.

Was there a second Baby Jesus I don't know about?
