The problem with people who make no effort to control their obesity is that at middle age or a bit later they place a burden on the health care system. Type Two diabetes is on the rise and apparently there are something like 12 million people walking around in America who don't realize they have it until the symptoms show themselves and by then the problems are too advanced for a cure and permanent ongoing treatment is required

you don't look disgustingly fat in your profile pic, assuming that is yourself and not a muppet? perhaps therapy?

Yes, that is me. At 5'9, I should be about 165 lbs at the high end (just shy of 12 stone). That was taken 2013, I think, when I was about 225-ish and not exactly active. I don't carry much weight in my face, it's almost all gut, so it won't show in that photograph.
I'm hovering in the low 210s right now, still quite a bit over where I need to be but the difference is that now I'm eating a caloric deficit, I can run 5K without stopping and I can squat 260 and deadlift 265. So I'm not by any stretch of the imagination 'in shape' but I am at least on the road to being physically fit while I continue to lose weight at a pace I'm happy with.

Bravo SoS. Less carbs= less beer= more drumming= more sweat.

I hardly drink much beer these days anyway because I'm always driving
It's pretty simple, really - calories in < calories out. I don't usually deny myself anything provided I stay within my calorie requirement (which is usually a deficit of 750). Because I'm active almost every day that still usually leaves me with about 2,200 I can eat. I'll do a week or two at a time of low carb to drop retained water though, but most of the time I eat normal meals, just smaller ones.
The benefit of exercising as well (which isn't strictly necessary for weight loss) is that I can eat more and still lose weight.
Long way to go, though.

This thread seems to have developed gremlins. Lots of duplicate posts today and posting problems...so I have opened a new thread.
