I'm surprised they do that because at least 50% of the cashiers time is spent packing. Supermarkets here could save a lot of money by switching to the traditional UK style - though the self service packing areas do take up more space. And the older Aussie supermarkets are already very cramped, often with barely enough space for two trolleys to pass eachother in the aisles.

During my trips to the UK last year I found the new self service tills to not work as efficiently as those in Australia and people frequently got annoyed with them - including myself.

One particular store has brilliant packers. It's like they recruit or transfer in the specialists.
We've got one till packer here in Canberra who packs well and sensibly and is so quick, like greased lightning quick! He's literally three times faster than all the other packers and the queues to his tills are always twice as long as everyone else's because everyone knows they''ll be finished and on their way much faster. It's quite a sight to behold!

... And in the afternoon, watch her watery eyes,... They move off centre in time with the odd slurry words she clearly hasn't been subject to a test recently......

Violence erupts as England fans clash with Portuguese police

Thanks lads, you're doing us proud. And that was just the warm-up.

No doubt I'll be having some nice conversations with the neighbours over the next week or so

It's very tempting to just pull out of this one and let the Dutch play the final. I don't think for a minute that it would do the trick and they'd all behave themselves, but what's to lose? Better this one than a Euros.

It would be interesting to get all the troublemakers together and check how they voted in the referendum

Shames Brits. Yet the power exists to take away their passports of impose a football travel ban...... OK. I'll say it .the FA is more concerned with cash than cooperating with the Police/ Borders Agency.
I'd make the scum walk home.

Some of the scum might have got something to remember the occasion by, judging by this. There's a bit of unbridled delight from the Portuguese onlookers - you might recognise some of the words on the soundtrack (it is Porto, so don't go repeating any of this stuff in the Algarve).

Baton-wielding riot police aren't always the most discriminating when it comes to picking their targets, though.

Other than that, just another example of brave fans, full of cheap booze and begrudgery (jeez, I love that word!) - I'm sure those commemorating D-Day will be proud to hear them singing such fine songs (and given that the Portuguese were neutral in the war, you have to question their knowledge of history).

As Eric says, the PSP are not the most discriminating, but they also don't hold back if there's a problem. If all the miscreants get is a whack across the back, they'll be lucky - and good luck to anyone trying to sue the riot squad!

No sir, I know my beach towel. Well, well, they clearly weren't dealing with a CSO or one slip of a girl. The biters bit.

Reminds me, in reverse, of what Berni Grant said after the riots. A bloody good hiding. Bet they don't try for a hat-trick tonight.

I wouldn't be so bold.

However, a very wet and windy afternoon and some precautionary closing of bars and cafes in the centre of town might just help a little bit.

Sad that they also had to take the precaution of closing schools and sending children home early in case of trouble.

My memories of Guimarães are a lousy hotel but the best Miminhos do Boi I ever ate at O Pinguim.......
