Apparently, the majority of Americans have not reached that stage, preferring to believe that allowing free access to lethal weapons is a demonstration of liberty.

To say more is a waste of breath.
And that cigarettes are more dangerous than assault rifles - apparently.

I love our house and garden. I loathe this place and the attitude of the people here .

I'm sorry, Bevs. That just stinks all round. Home should be a sanctuary. How much longer is that construction going on for?

Sounds like a presentation that goes on too long. Asked to present for 15 minutes, rambles on for 30.

Far too many members of the Republican party receive huge donations from the NRA, and they employ a huge number of lobbyists.

No. A majority of Americans support more safety and regulations. The data is there. This is just like abortion. It isn't about what the voters want or need. It's about what the cowards in Washington are afraid to face.

Faces. So many faces. The shooter shot first his grandmother in the face, then without a driver's license drives crashes family truck near the school ground, runs in to the school, locks himself in a full classroom of fourth graders and murders 19 of them with an automatic rifle.

Well, again, it's an issue of your political system..... and that's the sacred cow that nobody wants to touch.

ah - that makes sense. I've never been asked to make a presentation, thankfully, in any interview I've ever had.

Cheers.
I know it seems a vacuous moan within posts about a mass murder of children but there is only the Pithed Off thread to have such a vent.

It will be at least another year . The next section starts in a week or so and this one will be right on the fence line so just a couple of metres away.

Our home is not our sanctuary. Neither is it private anymore. It has become very hard to live with day in and day out.

If we could afford to board it up and rent somewhere for a year or so we would but it is not doable.

Could you not rent it out and rent something yourself somewhere? Not that I'd want to do that, but desperate times ...

You should move next to us. When we first moved in, we had new carpets put in. The neighbor downstairs came running up asking the installers to be quiet because it was freaking out his cat. Ever since then, we've tip-toed around, and we only vaccuum when we see their car drive off! But we love it because every neighbor is super quiet. We are considering a fairly major kitchen remodel but we are put off by the idea that it will annoy the neighbors; we're thinking of offering them some time-windows so they can plan a vacation around it! But ours would only be a month or so ... . We're now looking at moving to a slightly bigger place, but one of the big questions we have is, "will it be as quiet as where we are?" We could move in only to discover the neighbors have a piano, or a TV with a beefy sound-system ... we're most likely going to stay where we are because it's a case of 'the devil you know'! (We're in a condo situation, so neighbors are more of an issue).

Does your city / town not have any restrictions on when construction can be performed? Best of luck to you!

Listening on BBC R4 this AM to Angel Garza, who learned of his step-daughter's killing from her little friend in this latest mass shooting in Texas.....

Followed by some arse called Pete Sessions, a lifetime NRA member and Republican Congressman, who apparently has a Zen-Buddhist attitude to guns "It is not the gun that kills..."and to blame the shooter, not the fact that there is nothing in place to prevent the shooter from obtaining a lethal weapon. He claimed the shooter was "A criminal man who was 18 years old" (yet this did not stop him getting a gin) and (red flag!) who "wore eye-shade, sometimes wore dresses, was disrespectful to women"..... and "an outcast".
Despite all this, he blames a fellow student who did not inform police of the perpetrators intention to buy a gun - and thinks the answer is to "harden our schools", rather than tightening up on gun ownership because "the problem is not the gun, the problem is the person who utilised the gun". Bollix....
