Actually, Once we finish The Paradise, I think next up will be Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Which I believe is Australian.

I'd rather watch the same episode of Poirot fifty times over, than a single episode of Lewis or that long string of misery Wycliffe or that even longer string of misery Barnaby.
There was an excellent Italian/Scicilian series a while back, "Montalbano", for those not too lazy to read sub titles.

ETA: The Dr Blake Mysteries are even worse. You have to take a swig whenever the good doctor is doing something completely unrelated to his medical training. This requires two bottle of wine per episode and an Alkaseltzer for the morning after.

That smacks of desperation.

It's light entertainment, you can relax and enjoy.
Morse, Lewis, Endevour, George Gently, Frost, Midsommer. Some of the best British made murder mysteries

Never seen Lewis, never heard of Endeavour. Used to enjoy Wycliffe but it was a bit dismal. Didn't that finish a hundred years ago?

Dismal as well as miserable is a fair description for the characters I mentioned.
Characters like that, if characters is a fair description?, wouldn't make real detectives in a million years and are more reminiscent of cardboard characters from your typical US crime series.

Excellent recommendation Dick. There have been two original series so far and two "prequels". The originals are infinitely better, if you can get hold of them - as "Morse" to "Endeavour".
