Why get all defensive about it? They're doing a great job at showing us how they think, and heaven fobid what life would be like in their brave new world:

That's one opinion..... I'm sure some made similar cynical comments about his fourth-plinth statue of Alison Lapper.

Obviously the activist it represents, who worked with the sculptor, thinks differently..... and, to be equally cynical, it does seem a somewhat self-promoting comment, coming from a black artist who has been commisioned to produce a monument to the Windrush generation. Maybe he was hoping for another commission from Bristol.......

Which other US statues would make your top ten of the "USA's finest statues"?

Dunno. The statue of liberty I would probably rank as number 1. Which are your finest top 10?

Considering how few of them I have seen, I would be unable to even make a stab at such a ridiculous question.I could list my favourites, or the ones I think are better among those I know about. But I wouldnt dream in a million years to make such a crass claim of what constitutes the "USA's finest statues", a comparison based on almost the totality of the collective 3D plastic arts in half a continent. I had assumed that you were something of an American arts expert with your claim, rather than only knowing of two, one of which can be said to be French and not American at all. So your one statue of knowledge, is "one of the USA's finest statues"

We have this one in Chicago, but I've never been able to work out who it is. Maybe Thatcher?

Don't you have that Anish Kapoor reflective thing in Chicago? I never got to it when I visited Chicago, which I regret.

But wasn't it your ridiculous question?

Sure, the statue of liberty I think was a gift from France, but the USA accepted it very heartily and adopted it as a symbol of what their country represents and now it is quite rightly theirs. Nobody when looking at it says or thinks "look at that French statue", it's more like "look at that American statue, the Statue of Liberty".

Your entire post above reads like you're just having a good moan.
