So, to sum up:
Most people are not getting the full benefits for different reasons. Cape likes to repeat the nonsense that they are, it's just that they had some of it early and are paying it back. @ Cape do you realise that advance was used for a period they were in need and that period has now passed and now they are receiving less than what would be normal amounts?

Remember that this is most of them. The majority. Official figures. It's not something you can dismiss as 'the guardian' view of things, it's the truth.
A separate freedom of information request shows that universal credit claimants who are having their benefits deducted to repay debts and loans owe an average of £903. About 570,000 households owe more than £1,000, including 80,000 people owing more than £5,000.
They've already reduced the deductions rate because it was too high.

Official figures are also showing the rent shortfall, as I posted earlier, an average £113 a month that has to come out of benefits for food. Much higher - £211 in London.

Now imagine, if you can, that you are someone in both groups. Not just someone with less than is usual to live on currently, but you're also having to meet your rent shortfall by taking still more from an already lower rate.

Now add in that even the full benefit rate in relation to earnings is the lowest right now that it's ever been.

The ASA has ruled that the ads on benefits are misleading. Not telling the truth.

And you continue to say that increasing food bank use is nothing to do with all this.

Johnson and some of his cronies are on record as saying, poor people have only themselves to blame.

And many of the people affected by this system blame the EU and will vote for him next week.

Oh, good. You seem to know. Perhaps you can indicate which EU law(s) force England to impose this on its population. Nobody else has ever been able to.

I'm sure our resident bremoaners would love to know, so they wouldn't have to go to all the trouble of spinning figures selectively in order to fabricate their arguments. If they knew what EU law forces England to impose these hardships, then their job would be a lot easier. Just point to that and be done with it. Simples.

So, which EU law forces England to impose all these hardships on its population?

After a five day weekend thanks to a lovely public holiday, I come back to this thread and we're no further along the road are we?

Only we are....my postal voting form arrived at Mummy's yesterday.

Decisions, decisions.

You didn't. Never. But you seem to know a bit more about how it relates to the EU. Nobody else seems to know. I've been asking for a few years so far. Nobody has ever been able to say.

I just listen to what people have to say. Their reasons for voting "out" puzzle me. But people believe what they want to believe.
"Retail crisis hitting Walsall is mirrored across the UK" (Dec 3, Bangkok Post)
68 % in Walsall voted "leave" because they "feel overlooked and left behind".
How do "leave" and "feel overlooked..by Britain" tie up?
Why do Brits who have been living overseas for years go home for the referendum so they can vote "leave"?
Any explanation?

Can't speak for Thairetired but I don't think they meant that the people who voted thus were right to do so - merely that that's what they did.

..... On the basis, that they were given a vote in such a significant decision, of course, in a so-called democratic system

It's been elusive. There's all this debate about the problems in the UK, in Brexit threads, and apparently to illustrate why Brexit is good. Topics ranging from healthcare, to animal welfare, and especially immigration.

But when asked what EU law or even membership of the EU is cause for whatever you're unhappy with, there's rarely any answer, and even if there is, it's yet another long debunked daily tabloid narrative.

People seem to think I'm being extreme when I say the motivations for Brexit have little to do with the EU. But it's actually the hard, cold truth. It's very difficult to show how EU membership has any significant involvement in almost any reason for Brexit, without parroting a debunked tabloid headline, or resorting to gross exaggeration.
