Tricky.

An ultimatum is an ultimatum. It would certainly weaken the UK's negotiating hand considerably if their Chief Brexit Negotiator was shown to be weak and feeble enough to withdraw such a threat or ignore the fact that he'd made it.

Imagine the sledging he'd cop at the negotiating table.

I don't believe for a minute that all politicians are disingenuous nor serve only the source of the money.

Politics is a crap job where no matter what, you will be accused of something dubious.

No, I just think that any politician with a genuine desire to work for the people and govern with integrity is facing an uphill battle against ignorance and ideological zealots. Look what happened to Obama for example.

I think that's wrong. As a group I don't suppose that they are better or worse than any group of people working in any industry, and this constant drumbeat that they are all devoid of principles and want only some advantage other than their salaries, and will work only out of self interest - we all want salaries, don't we, and I doubt many of us turn down any perks offered - does us all a disservice and discourages attention to and participation in our government. The whole "it's just politics" line is part of what undermines the democratic process, and stimulates this sort of nastiness.
