Winston Churchill 1874-1965
Probable the greatest Briton of all time imho lived a life of long ago and would not meet modern standards (maybe) to rubbish the man and call him a racist is wrong!!!
Put your self back in the 1900-1950,s Britain and see how you might be. A totally different person I think??? I think some respect for a great man is due don't you think???

I would nominate Jane Austen, my favourite novelist, as a contender for the title. Hard to tell whether she was a racist, since pretty much every character in her books is not just English, but a member of the Church of England in good standing.
And, here is a long quote from Winston Churchill about Jane Austen.

The Francis Crick, along with James Watson and Maurice Wilkins who 'borrowed' the fundamental work of Rosalind Franklin and took all the praise for themselves!

Trying to structure a rubric for evaluating the "Greatest Briton" gives me a headache. I dont think it can serve any point in assigning the title to anyone.
But in the spirit of fun, I'd go with a shortlist of Newton, Shakespeare, Turing, Bomberg
edit: Bomberg might be less known to some, David Bomberg, painter, I'd probably pick him from my shortlist.
