I see one of the instances of the NYT apparetly lying is the NYT itself . The others are accusations. Here you are dismissing these tax reports because "he's within his rights" and there's nothing to prove dishonesty (paraphrasing), yet here you are entering NYT lies into a search engine and believing every result is an example of actual regular dishonesty from the NYT.

Are there any rulings by any sort of regulatory body in those results? They just appear to be blogs and opinions by anyone who cares to write something. Apart from those that list Trump's lies. See, you make a basic search and consider the results as proof of the paper lying when many of the results are about Trump Lying.

It's no wonder you prefer videos.

There is much discussion about an audit. If you fail an audit and have to pay, does that constitute breaking 'taxation related laws'?

I think the issue here is not 'legal/illegal', but rather, moral/immoral or even simply, fair / unfair. If someone who claims to be rich and successful is seen to be not paying a dime in taxes, I think most people are going to have a negative opinion regardless of whether it is technically illegal or not.

Exactly, witness the campaigns in the UK to get Google and Amazon to pay a fair share of tax. If it's okay for one, it's okay for all..

Agreed.

Did they just get it wrong here, or did they make shit up?

Anyway, it's easy enough to solve. The info is with the IRS. Publish the returns and everyone will know if Trump was framed.

Trumps half hearted denial sounded to me that the information published was more or less correct.

He called it 'Fake News' and 'Illegally obtained'

They can't both be true.

Since he has also said on Twitter than many people pay no tax, he has basically admitted that the reporting is correct.

IMO up to date tax returns should be made public before the 2 candidates are allowed to run for President. Don’t/can’t for whatever reason...then you must stand down and the party choose another candidate.

True or not, the mud will stick and a proportion of those still sitting on the fence, if there are any, could find this as an excuse to tumble into Biden's side.
As to the argument that Trump's no different from many other americans, this'll cast an unwelcome spotlight towards other american practices of tax avoidance.
But of course Trump isn't like other americans who pay no tax. He's repeatedly exclaimed how rich and what a wonderful businessman he is.
Trump is now like a man on a runaway train laying track in front of the wheels fearfully aware that the availability of new track is running out fast.

Maybe we could ask Paul Manafort?

IIRC it was tax evasion, bank fraud, falsification of income tax forms, etc. We also know that Trump's finances were conveniently excluded from the investigation because, APPARENTLY, you can't investigate a criminal when they are the sitting president. We also know, if it weren't for this sefl-declared (internal memo) rule the FBI has assigned to themselves ... Trump would be in prison.
