For now...

But pledges are no better than the assurances given to Nissan recently, unless there's money behind it.

Nice try Ami, but it's fairly obvious that what you really mean is that you need a break from me pissing you off every time you post a load of meaningless crap.

Maybe a nice break in Berlin would suffice.

You always accuse me of your own behaviour. I don't think you understand what you are saying. Or how it reflects on you.

And he also speaks up for member states to be given greater freedom in determining how they will achieve their targets.

It is still being dangled as a threat, though (as it was all along) in order to try to get both governments "on track" with next year's budgets.

All a bit of a long way from Brexit though. The UK was never subject to this sort of pressure, nor would it ever have been.
It is the big downside of the EU which we all agree needs radical reform in the admin field. However it's not entirely their fault-They have to deal with at least two countries, the USA and the UK who have used Quantive Easing as a method of getting out of their unpayable debt. (A method not open to EU members.unless they have an opt out clause.(.umm like the UK has)

It is possible therefor useful that Portugal has consistently managed to have officials in very high places within the EU. Some causing great controversy like Barossa who is now ensconced in Goldman Sachs. Personally i think hurrah for the little guy.If it covers our backs during this unequal struggle all to the good

Poverty and Inequality in the European Union - The Poverty Site

https://erc.europa.eu/projects-and-r...uropean-cities

"The widening gap between rich and poor is leading to segregation in more and more European cities.
The rich and the poor are living at increasing distance from each other, and this can be disastrous for the social stability and competitive power of cities. These are the conclusions of joint research of Prof. Maarten van Ham, ERC grantee at Delft University of Technology, and Prof. Tiit Tammaru, Dr. Szymon Marcińczak and Prof. Sako Musterd."

Not only in cities, but in Eu countries there is an increasing North/South divide as well as an East/West divide.

The ECB has used quantative easing since Jan 2015 and has recently extended the programme until at least the spring of next year.
So I guess they have to now deal two countries and the entire Eurozone.
