Actually, I got that idea from a sign I saw outside a resto in one of the British enclave resorts last year:

"Authentic English lasagne with chips €9.95".

It's the chips that make it authentic.

Smothered in HP no doubt... (Made in Holland, by the way). The champagne, well, union jack on the label, "made in Romania" in the fine print on the back.

Good job we're leaving that mess. But champagne will always be English. Prosecco, too. And lasagne. And vindaloo. No matter what anybody says...

Gotta love the Dutch.

Authentic Romanian champagne?

Is that the same way Andy Murray is British, until he gets knocked out, then he's just Scottish again?

Foreigners. Always wishing they could be English. And they can be... Sometimes. But only when we want them to be. "Taking back control" and all that.

Romanians want to be English, too, don't they? That's why they make authentic English champagne.

Taking Back Control is actually a good name for a Foreigner song, now you come to mention it.

Makes sense to me.

Well, then, that brings us back to the frogs.

The only way they can wave the Union Jack with pride is because they make British passports and drivers licences. We wouldn't want to take that away from them, would we?

Oh, wait. They're bloody Europeans, aren't they? That complicates things. We wouldn't want foreigners messing with our shit, would we?

It's confusing.

I think they have enough to concern themselves with, now that the Romanians are bootlegging their Champagne.

:o - D'you know that in Dublin it's all reversed? Maybe posh cabs don't go north of the Liffey!

Nothing wrong with English sparkling - the real stuff around here has won prizes in France! But it's expensive and there are a lot of cheaper options out there - for those in Portugal, try Baga bruto .... made from black grapes (like Pinot Noir), traditional method and €8 a bottle. Does me.
