Yes.
Many illegal immigrants are forced to work for less than minimum wage.
Obviously these are not from the EU as those employees have the automatic right to work.

Anyway, I don't think CB and Manch were talking about them. They claim the EU (legal) workers are bringing wages down.
My question was very simple : Do they bring down the minimum wage ? Didn't get an answer.

I also asked why Brits don't do those jobs at minimum wage. Not really an answer neither.

Now it seems the problem is non-EU illegal immigration. :confused::confused::confused:

Can anyone bring any sense into this confusing business ?

I am interested in someone explaining to me how it is that EU workers bring down wages.
My thinking is : they don't earn much so must be on minimum wage.
How can they bring down minimum wage. I just don't see the logic.

This min wage is set by the Government as are the benefits.
The story is that Brits don't want to do the EU people jobs because they find the wages too low.
My thinking here is : Benefits must pay better than min wage, otherwise they would take the job.
Does the Government pay too much benefit ?

And now you throw in the illegals working below min wage.
I do realize any country has illegal workers and bosses taking advantage, but surely we're talking exceptions here and NOT the rule.

Illegal immigrants however few they are compared to the rest of the working economy may not be legally employed.
They work for business that are in the grey or black economy and have an insignificant if even any measurable effect on averages wages.
A restaurant or shop employing a few illegals letting them live in a room above their business will probably not be in the market for legal employees, migrant or non migrant even at minimum wage.
What makes you think illegal migrants have any effect on wage levels .

Fundamental supply & demand economics and the opening of the reserve pool of labour to include tens of millions of poorer Europeans.

All he wants to do is keep posting the same economic & social kant in support of his warped views, in the hope that he's seen as some kind of 'moderate' while others are just fools or ignorant. I doubt he's ever held any sort of responsible job - whatever he claims; - people just wouldn't be prepared to work with him.

The minimum wage that many employers pay only because They are forced to, that if they could would pay less exploiting their employees.
But in Capes world it would be the employees fault.

I have been asking this question for a while and never get an answer.

I do believe that less employees will push wages up (with the risk of companies having to close down) but having a choice of employees does NOT bring down the minimum wage.
IT CAN'T ...

It's time our so called ''Remainer'' explains his thinking (or lack of).
Very well to sit on a high horse looking down at people, but a bit of logical normal conversation every now and then would be nice.

Cape's repeated claims the employee sets the pay rate when accepting the job doesn't hold up. The employer sets the rate, which the employee chooses to accept or decline.
