Why have they stopped applying.
Because the may feel not welcome, but if the UK can fill the gap with qualified nurses from much poorer countries where their skills are needed then brexit will appear to have worked.
Our local " so called branch of a university has about every course you can think of for the local school leavers but anything related to Nursing.
Beautition, hairdresser, keep fit instructor etc etc.

We need to train and motivate our own nurses and other skills areas which the UK is short of.

So countries much poorer than the UK should let their health systems suffer just to provide a source of nurses that the UK is too mean to provide for itself or whose populace lack the motivation to become nurses.

Possibly the training colleges are taking more students than they should; however those training are getting a career for themselves abroad.
Nurses trained in the UK also go abroad after training.
They all become expats!! Just like everyone on this Forum!!
(Yes obviously the UK should train more of their own people).

The countries are not setting out just to provide nurses, for the UK. They could employ them if they wished.

The UK does not have to provide the structure and costs of training.
The number of UK nurses who go abroad is a fraction of those from outside of the UK employed in the NHS.
It's cheaper to employ a nurse from Manila than train one in Manchester.

Look at the cost to employers to sponsor a non-EU worker for 5 years. How many employers are willing to pay that AND how many unemployed Filipino nurses can afford the visa fees?

Is Tier 2 visa Brexit-ready?

The country could train less nurses or employ more.
In Kerala nurses often take out loans for their training. Money will be sent home.
I presume you are quite happy for nurses (and doctors) to come to work in the UK from poorer EU countries??
This topic started because of a reduction in applications from EU nurses. Your comments about non-EU nurses are hypocritical.

So nurses in Kerala fund their own training, so what, it has nothing to do with the UK need for nurses.
