Well I guess a certain Chancelor Johnathan Bennett hopes his publications team never misspell his stage name as that would cause distress to some. Perhaps he should just be referred to as Chance.

Seems some might be a little too overly concerned about things that really are not something to be concerned with, and should maybe use that energy towards something more serious that could actually change society for the better.

The Sun article has all the salient points and no paywall. The menu looks good, and if, as he says, business has tanked he can just make new signs that say Recep's Chippy and it should come back.

I had to think . It is a play on the words Jack The Ripper and I guess the fuss might be that this chip shop is in the vicinity of where Jack the Ripper murdered his victims. Given that guided tours operate about this it does seem a bit odd for anyone to make an issue.

I'd suggest that a non-story like this was given column space because it's been a slow news week/month/year... but that hardly seems the case.

I quite like the name "Jack the Chipper", demonstrates that enterprise isn't totally dead... perhaps another name could be 'Poison Fries'.

Certainly not a slow news period in terms of newspapers, and "The News" on TV but a google search shows the coverage of this non-story was pretty much limited to the Sun, Mail, Express, free sheets and blogs. So if there's no celebrity gossip or political scandal it's a slow news week.

Footnote...apparently there's a Jack the Clipper barber in the area too. Of course, Sweeney Todd barbers are fairly common.

This is so true. They get so outraged by something that didn't happen because they expect something like it to happen even though it hasn't. It's like the Self-Righteous Brothers sketch on Harry Enfield where they make up bad stuff about celebrities and get angry about it as if it is real.
