Hell in a hand basket.
Have you hard evidence of that (from Bangladesh) Robin.?

You mention Bangladesh a very poor densely populated country with much monsoon flooding etc. Many millions of refugees/illegal migrants from there have gone over the border into India but the size of the receiving country accommodates them without too much problem. There is free movement from Nepal and Bhutan both small countries.

If the EU had made a proper plan regarding reception and placement of refugees there would have been less problems. I don't think refugees can select a country and insist on going only there in the first instance, however each country should honour a plan to house an appropriate number.
The EU had Zero time to make any sort of plan Bipat. We were overrun due to a war,not of our making.

Open borders? I'm all for them. I've got a nice one near me, I've used it on a number of occasions and I've never seen any dangerous outsiders lurking near it.
That's not at all the right attitude. You're supposed to be getting all indignant about FOREIGNERS.

Well, at least the Spanish will be able to keep the cheating British out of their country once they close their border. No more false food poisoning claims 😀😀

Oh yes, and I'm sure they'll be happy holding hands in the dole queue - along with their fishermen compatriots who will have to find somewhere else to pillage......

Attacking the many for the faults of the few is an unwelcome trait - although shared by many keyboard warriors around here.......

BTW - before you jump in with both feet, I'm NOT a Brit.

I wasn't being serious. Just reflecting the view of a world with closed borders to protect UK citizens from "criminal" foreigners back.

Btw I am neither British nor Spanish and don't believe that Spain will be full with unemployed just because British tourists won't come. Spain is overbooked anyhow. And there is a whole world with billions of tourists still waiting to explore Spain.

Yeah, but when the Brits are gone from Spain, the only ones left will be foreigners. And you know how dangerous they are. Bloody open borders!

I've never really understood what it is with these opponents of open internal borders. Is it that they think there are no controls on the external borders? Or are they just excited by the sight of a border guard's uniform? Or maybe they feel secure when they're shut in, due to some childhood trauma or something - being locked in the cupboard under the stairs, maybe?

The idea now that in order to cross into Spain by land, I'd have to stop and show papers and maybe have a visa or something actually seems quite absurd. The goods trucks and the tourists, both day-trippers and the longer stay holidaymakers crossing the border freely just seems so normal now. No more of an experience than crossing from England to Wales. Stopping that flow and causing holdups at the crossing-points seems pointless and very counter-productive indeed - and for what, exactly?

By the way, there is a FOREIGNER from an EU country living in - sorry, sponging off, the UK, speaking for Britain First and calling for Merkel to be shot.

I think Dickie and Vex's heads must be spinning by now trying to identify the enemy.

My money's on the uniforms.

Btw, I heard an interesting definition the other day.

Patriotism = love of one's own and respect for others
Nationalism = love of one's own and the fear and loathing of others.

I think that bit of Spain's exempt - there's a road sign near here pointing to the frontier which has "Espanha" spray-painted over with "GALIZA". They've been agitating for a while up there to be allowed to have PT TV beamed across the border, amongst other things. And they've been beaming marriages at each other in both directions for many generations. Probably easier all round if they just continued the Portuguese border straight on up into the Bay of Biscay.

I went to Santiago with SWMBO. She is of an age who ventured across the border as a tourist, had bad experiences and doesn't forget - so definitely "Nem bom vento". But she loved it! I recall her chatting to a butcher in the old market, she in Portuguese, he in Galician.

Then he asked where she came from ... "Lisboa" said she - "ahh, vem de Lisboa, não vem coisa boa!" was the reply. Touché!!
