I wonder how long before we discover who, in government, directly or indirectly gains from this or who will shortly receive "consultancy" fees or positions in the Trusts who own the land and that sort of thing.

Wtf?

Can't anyone bring these people down?

So there was no way our government could have predicted a corona virus epidemic, so they aren't to blame for not preparing for it, right?

Except - the exact scenario was mapped out in 2016 in "war games" and the government was told it needed a test and trace system, a stockpile of PPE, and a way to control foreign travel.

So was anything done? At all?

Or shall we just vote them back in for more of the same?

Canada learned after SARS and did stockpile and put some programs in place, only problem was the conservative party during their 10 year reign of destructions did away with some of the programs, cut funding for departments and while there was a stock pile of PPE nobody between 2004/2005 era and 2020 ever did inventory so almost all of the stockpile was expired or no longer usable.

So stockpile yes, but ffs make sure to keep inventory and rotate out old stock with new stock or you end up with a stockpile of mostly useless supplies.

Even movies have gotten is so so right, in the movies the virus kills faster, but eh the basic premise was pretty close, I watched Contagion the first time in 2020, and it was errily like watching reality in many ways, of course in that movie death occured a lot quicker than with COVID but who knows what is out there, could happen in reality a new virus shows up and kills quicker but not quick enough so spread like wildfire still.

It's not known how common this policy is across the US, but UCHealth in Colorado and some transplant centers in Washington, Vermont, Massachusetts and Alabama require transplant patients to be fully vaccinated to receive a transplanted organ, one lady has decided that religion is more important than her life, and even though she will be denied transplant, she still wont get the vaccine saying: “As a Christian, I can’t support anything that has to do with abortion of babies, and the sanctity of life for me is precious.”

It's her life and if she would rather die, I guess its her choice, but I personally would rather take the vaccine and get new kidney and potentially live for another 10-20 years.

Good. Give it to a sane person. Such a selfless act by (the donor or donors family) should not be wasted on some selfish asshole.

I suppose you don't need any human medical or human health training to be head of a public health agency, but I think it would be good to have people with training, knowledge and experience in human health, but hey the current head of the agency isn't even a veterinarian, so I suppose a veterinarian is an improvement in some ways.

It's a politically appointed position that serves at the leisure of the Prime Minister so its more about political favors than what people know, just seems weird

Pilots have been without a new contract since August 30, 2020 so very likely using the mandate to get the company to settle since technically since no new agreement has yet been signed, the status quo is supposed to be maintained according to the Railway Labor Act laws that govern airline labor rules.

Anyhow they are filing a temporary retraining order with the court over the vaccine mandate policy saying said policy is violating the Railway Labor Act's Section 6 dispute resolution process to maintain the status quo of its collective bargaining agreement until a new agreement is reached.

Southwest pilots allege that the airline has issued and implemented an Infectious Disease Control Policy during the COVID-19 pandemic that significantly altered the working conditions, rules and rates for pay for pilots in violation of RLA Section 6.

Wants Texas to leave the Union as an independent nation... Steve Earle called Texas "Occupied Mexico" and if you look at the early history it's status was tenuous. The map of Mexico would look good with a panhandle sticking out of the top.

Depending on which bit of history you pick, a vast chunk of the US would really be Mexico.

And further yet, of course, a whole series of other "nations'.

All of them appear to have been better-suited to run a country that the current occupants.

I was trying to make a joke of it, but my sense of humor isn't very mainstream, but it made me giggle a bit that we have a Vetrinarian as head of public health agency, but a vet is still likely an improvement education wise over Ian Stewart who seems to have less education all around.

I know that position is largely poltical in nature, I just find it amusing we don't have human medical specialists as head of these agencies.

Iain Stewart the outgoing head of PHAC who was reshuffled back to where he came, is being replaced by Dr. Harpreet S. Kochhar who is a vetrinarian by trade and education, and currently (he takes the new job tomorrow) an associate deputy minister of health, prior to being associtate deputy minister of health he was Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations Sector, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, prior to that was Associate Vice-President of Operations and Chief Veterinary Officer for Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Canada’s Delegate to the World Organization for Animal Health.
