For some people (and with suitably trained assistance), mental health conditions can also be effectively treated in other ways such as optimised nutrition, supplements, CBT, mindfulness, exercise, community supports, etc. The only thing with these latter treatments is they require time, effort, and money whereas medications are generally easier and cheaper. Unfortunately few countries invest enough to provide this full raft of mental health services which means it's often down to loved ones to put in the time, effort and expenses to provide this care - which often they cannot afford themselves.
I know, that's why working with a doctor and therapist to find the right solution is important. But many people, not in this discussion, can be too dismissive of using medication as well.

I'm so sorry to hear about how the medications didn't work in the case of paulry 's family member.
This is so sad.
I have known people who struggle getting the dose right on their medications and are changing constantly to other antidepressants because the ones they have tried don't work.

My feeling is that for me depression comes and goes so I don't understand how the meds canwork at all times properly when a person usually only needs them when something sad or bad happens. It is a mystery. So I am thankful I don't suffer from serious depression, feeling down always has a reason, its not just depression unaffiliated with some saddness like death or for example the current covid danger and lockdowns.
I have no medical training at all so hesitate to comment. But I hope things like medications for mental health issues will improve.

I wish my neighbor would get herself straightened out soon though. It is a worry to live near someone who is always so volitile, angry and destructive.

Coronavirus live news: Germany, Sweden and Russia all report record rises in daily cases
Sweden, whose unorthodox virus-fighting strategy has garnered global attention, registered 5,990 new cases on Friday; the highest since the start of the pandemic, statistics from its Health Agency show.

The increase compared with a high of 4,697 daily cases recorded earlier this month.

Sweden registered 42 new deaths, taking the total to 6,164 deaths. Sweden’s death rate per capita is several times higher than that of its Nordic neighbours but somewhat lower than some larger European countries such as Spain.

My g/f made an interesting observation today - possibly a bit of a silver lining to the overall Trump debacle. Since the current vaccine 'good news' is being released on Trump's watch, maybe - just MAYBE - a lot of the vaccine skeptics will be more inclined to take it, since Trump is pushing it as a big thing.

Unless he flip flops in January after leaving office, I would not put it past him to start spewing lies about vaccine once out of office.

I'll put this here in the 'political' version of the Covid-19 discussion also, just in case it spins out of control.

I just watched the new head of Biden's Coronavirus Task Force on Chris Wallace's show. He was brilliant! Chris Wallace baited him with several opportunities to get political, but each and every time he had the perfect 'matter of fact' response. Great voice, well composed, absolutely the right guy for the job.

Interesting, Cummings goes at the end of last week, and today the government have ended it's ban on ministers appearing on Good Mormning Britain, with Matt Hancock in the hot seat.

Who, like me, thinks Boris is once more "hiding in the fridge"? These brushes with coronavirus do seem to come along at suspiciously convenient times for him. With the Cummings/Cain affair having just happened, at a critical moment in the EU Trade Deal talks and hard decisions to take and try to sell to the public on the management of the pandemic, he's been told to self isolate for 10 days.

He will be doing all discussions on 'Zoom'---(Matt Hancock stated on TV this AM).
Remember ---many EU individuals have been +ve or isolated---including Barnier and von der Leyen.

I have had some sympathy (not a lot) with ministers not appearing on GMB because Morgan is such an utterly shite interviewer. He loves the sound of his own voice, rambles on for 5 times as long as necessary to ask a question and then interrupts as soon as the interviewee tries to answer it.

Was unable to watch this morning - how did it go?

Looks like we weren't the only ones with this hope:
https://www.vox.com/coronavirus-covi...-vaccine-trump

Why Trump taking credit for the Covid-19 vaccines could be a good thing

After he leaves office, he can help convince his supporters to get vaccinated for Covid-19.
