I would think a good deal of his fortune is from his company Bloomberg L.P. and related stuff.

At this point for me its going to be anyone but Trump, and I want the democrats to run whoever has the best chance to beat Trump.

I don't know much about him. I think he is big on environmental issues, which is very important, but I don't want to see the job just go to the person with the biggest advertising budget.

What are your views, as a long term North American, JG?

Fight the battles you can win.
It will be progress if you don't end up with a gangster or tinpot dictator wannabe in the white house. Added plus will be if they have a brain.

I fear, if that's all we're aiming for (getting the crook out), we will end up with sleazy Uncle Joe. Maybe we just have to suck that up this time. (FYI I can't vote, can just watch in horror.)

Just a bit of advice;

Your perception of ANY opponent of Trump... Anyone, from any party, any background... Will be at least 50% fabricated by Trump's propaganda machine, and likely 80% There's plenty of form, so please don't bother arguing it.

So it won't matter who it is, how good or bad, or what party they come from, somehow, magically, you'll find them pretty questionable, even downright evil. That's how it works. And it does work.

But in reality, virtually any of them would be an upgrade from what's there now.

Try to look at this from the objectivity of a distant planet. Don't get wrapped up in the chatter.

amideislas, I have no idea who you are, and I suspect the reverse is true. You have NFI what my background is, what I do or do not know about politics, what my interest in them is, what I do for a living.

Just a bit of advice - how about you don't assume anything, quit the aggression and stop ****ing patronising me.

By all means you are entitled to waffle away, it's an open forum, but please don't expect me to waste any more time on you.

"Sleazy uncle Joe" I believe is the term you used.

obviously, you've already been sucked in.

Now, you can argue whether he's a good candidate, you can argue whether his policies are reasonable, or whether he's presidential material. But he's done NOTHING wrong. Hardly "sleazy".

That's the Trump propaganda machine at work. And ironically, Trump (demonstrably, irrefutably) fits that connotation far more than "sleazy uncle Joe".

IMO he will get the Dem nomination and could well become President. Not sure whether being Jewish will be an advantage or disadvantage. It shouldn’t make a difference. Having billions is obviously a huge advantage when it comes to US politics.

He is a good business man. He came from virtually nothing, to owning a global empire. In my view he his certainly better than anything else that’s on offer.

He donated $1.8 billion to Johns Hopkins University last year to help low and moderate income students pay their tuition.

His charity seems to focus on 5 areas arts, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health.

Anyone but Trump but can the former NYC mayor win.. Bloomberg coming into the race to the White House late will hurt him some but what will slow his momentum more is the fact he has no true constituency. His policies are not particularly popular with women voters, or with white men, or with African Americans or Hispanic voters. You need a core group of voters to help you build momentum in order to gain a greater following. There need to be excitement about your candidacy that will appeal to the masses moving forward otherwise you are simply another also ran. Deval Patrick can appeal to the women and minority voters and that will create excitement nationwide.

Bloomberg is hoping his success in the NYC voting blocks will translate to all of America. Michael was a good mayor of New York but he was never loved. And by the end of the second term people wanted him out. But what is in his favor is who is currently in the White House. People want Trump out so bad they would vote for just about anyone that would at least do no harm. I only wished Obama could do a third term because he would win in a landslide!
