It seems nearly every short term program to gain some sort of skill requires some level of math class, annoying.
If one has the abilities needed, air traffic control would be an interesting job.
Work BC has some tests to help guide people.
Career Compass Abilities Quiz top professions:
Image, social or personal consultants. (no idea what this even is.)
Security Guard
Childcare provider (nope, nada.)
By law enforcement ( this would be fine and I have applied with various citys before for some, never heard back from any,)
Healthcare services, nursing, or support.
Gas station attendant.
Sales related occupation (tried sales before, failed miserably, really need to be a people person to excel in sales.)
Work preferences quiz results:
Librarian (weird result as I dont like books really, nor reading.)
Court Clerk
Life Coach
Bartender (another odd one.)
Insurance claims adjuster
Insurance Broker
Financial sales.
Nursing

If this is AI at work then there's more A going on than I imo.
According to the preferences test, I should have been a chiropractor or an interior decorator.
As to abilities, that was a bit closer; veterinary technician, chef (yay!) aircraft assembly/inspection. <= this is more than a bit spooky, I was on the fringes of this domain way before PCs came in.
No electronic trail whatsoever your Honour. How do they do that stuff?
The third test (which as mentioned I couldn't even work out how to complete) had me as a barber/hairstylist or a Home Child Care Provider. I would not feel comfortable with either.

The third one I skipped as it was confusing.
These are the sorts of tests WorkBC uses to try and help one find work, they do help narrow some things down, most do require extra schooling as well and some are so far out there.
No idea how they come up with the results.
Sometimes I wish I could just live in some small tourist town and own a gift shop....lol
I am keeping an eye on jobs in citys in the US with light rail see if any operator jobs come up. San Diego is but its part time and wage too low to rent housing and survive so its not an option.
Portland seems to pay well just not hiring at the moment.
Seems like a suitable and interesting job.

Would only go if the job was with a place with good benefits or sufficient pay.
thinking out of the box.
May never happen but need to at least consider it.

California had a bill in the state legislature last year for single payer, it passed the state senate but was shelved by the state assembly.
Both houses of state legislature are strong democrat majorities, so it wasn't a republican blocking bill type problem.
The linked article explains the problems that kept it from going anywhere.

I can't be denied entry into the US, but the officers could certainly deny my wife and make my day a living hell, so wary of working in anything pot related until some time has passed and see how the US is reacting at the border.

I thought about the cannabis dc, concerns me is the US though and how crossing the border would be, they always ask where I work, and at the time I was already working and making the wage they are starting at so was not too into looking for anything and the pay wasn't worth leaving the other for.

It's a job. Making $20.40/hr to start plus benefits. Isn't that better than not working at all?

I did apply for the only job listed auxiliary customer service today. Not sure I am qualified but I did apply.
I see on the other website they will have warehouse listed still so I'll try applying for that one as well. I'll apply anyhow, but not sure transportation will work for the warehouse one.
(The warehouse one might be out due to the hours of the shifts and the area where the warehouse is having limited transit service. According to the translink website the earliest I could get there is 6:50*am and the shift is a 6:30 start, the evening shift ends at 10pm and translink says there is no service at all that can get me home.)
Edit: google found a way to go via transit, arrives at 6:25am so the morning shift might work, weird how the connection doesn't show on the translink website.
Google found no viable way for the evening shift though.
I'll apply the 6:25 arrival may or may not be feasible on transit, but will give a go anyhow and apply.
* assuming one of the 3 busses/trains isn't late, its bus, train, bus to get there by 6:50am with only 4 minutes at one transfer point.
A lot of these industrial areas are not compatible with transit or have limited transit service.
