Seeing as she is nearly universally admired on this side of the atlantic, I'm having difficulty forming a politic answer for any colleagues who wish to commiserate with me. "not sorry the old bag has karked it" isn't quite there yet.

In other news, sales of rose tinted spectacles are expected to reach new highs.

I've no opinion on her as I was only a nipper during most of her tenure but I think she was too soft on the IRA. Iron Lady my arse, a true iron lady would have had the SAS in to take care of those f**kers properly

RIP to old Maggie, she has the balls alright. Always enjoyed listening to her aswell as Norman Tebbit taking part in a political debate.

she backtracked on the Poll Tax, couldn't get to grips with hooliganism, covered up Hillsborough, couldn't justify the sinking of the Belgrano and was too soft on the IRA, wanted to put Liverpool into a managed decline.

she had no balls whatsoever with the tough matters, but went after the easy targets.

This is one of those subjects that the opinion depends entirely on what part of the word you were in during her tenure as PM I think.

Good first post
I would have called it trolling

Couldnt imagine the opposition having the balls to handle the Falklands situation the way she did. One of those situations that really mattered.

it was, politically favourable for her to have a war.

she was flagging in the polls, but instead of whacking a task force down there ASAP as soon as we knew the Argentinians were making waves, in order to deter them, she allowed them to invade, thus having a war which helped her win the following election.

and by doing that, in my opinion is not only disgusting but as British people needlessly died, is borderline criminal.

And why, may I ask was it so important to protect the falkland islands, yet institute a policy of 'managed decline" for a city less than 200 miles north west of the nations capital?

Just compare her to Reagan. The parallels are quite similar. Both presided over deep recession (of its day) and high unemployment. Both refused to help out with government money, millions lost their jobs in big industries as a result leaving many areas still run down. Think rust belt States here and "the North" in UK. Both moved their economies to a "warehouse style" relying on consumers and not producers. Both gave big tax breaks to the wealthiest. Both wanted to destroy social security and in Maggie's case, the NHS.

I find when you mention that, they look at her in a different light. The only two things I can credit her for was reining in union excesses and breaking gender stereotypes. Her only real enemy was herself as the Poll Tax debacle proved. I'm not sorry "that bloody woman" is gone. Not at all.

Her populatarity after that war was at an all time high, she won the following election with a landslide victory.
