For the sake of privacy, gays/lesbians should be separated from the general population in private quarters much along the lines women and men are separated. There, problem solved.

Ridiculous. Openly gay people have served in the armed forces of most of the developed world for some time including Britain (10 years), Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Israel without any need for any kind of segregation or separate facilities.

Sorry, I 100% disagree. If you want to segregate populations based on a sexual orientation, where does it end? I can agree with gender, obviously, but nothing else beyond that. If you can't segregate based on race or religion, then why should you be able to based on sexual orientation?

As a gay man myself I never cease to wonder at the arrogance and misplaced presumptuousness of so many straight men when they automatically assume that they are going to be "pounced on" or "threatened" or "assaulted" in any way by any gay man they find in their presence, especially in such places as an all male military environment, a locker room, a gymnasium or in the baths area or wherever men are thrown together for whatever reason of employment n cluding the military.

How dare they even think that gay guys are going to "fancy" them as a matter of course when the truth of the matter is that they do not even remotely feel any kind of attraction towards them in such situations as that. Bloody hell - who do thy think they are.....God's gift to mankind?

Professionalism and appropriate conduct applies to gay people every bit as it does to straights, and in many cases more so. "Inappropriate behaviour" and resultant problems are a lot more likely to occur between men and women as has been graphically illustrated in recent cases in the UK military both at home here and abroad.

Men and Woman or separated because of the disparity of power between men and women. I think the power would lay with the straight soldiers given greatter numbers, so no need for them to be protected by having straights only dorms.

The bigots will soon get used to it, and then not even notice.

Because race or religion doesn't have anything to do with sex. Why do you think men and women are separated? Some people think along similar lines towards gays, they feel it's like being around mixed company when you're trying to shower.

I think you might be projecting your own little fears and insecurities onto a section of the population who I like to think mostly (barring an inevitable small minority with the same issues) are made of sterner stuff.

Now let me ask all of you a question. If this isn't such a big deal, then why are LGBT people trying to make it into a big deal? Why? Do they want to flaunt their sexuality around in the open so the whole world knows they are gay? So what is the big problem then? Why go through all the effort?

flaunt or just talk about what you do everyday, without having to check every fifth word.
If I say me and my wife went out for dinner, am I flaunting? or my daughter did this or that,
every little piece of daily crap says stuff about us, and none of it is flaunting.

Lesbians and gay men are already serving in the armed forces, this is just seeking to stop them having to pretend they are not.

FFS. Do we really have to spell this out? The problem for gay people in the military is that their career is over and they get chucked out as soon as it becomes known that they bat for the other side, regardless of their abilities, skills, or contribution to national security. Do you think that's fair? Sensible?

I didn't know they could have gotten thrown out if they were outed, so I suppose then no I don't think it's fair for them to be thrown out if someone outed them.
