You should watch the video and turn the volume up. It's either an older automatic or a modified semi-auto.

Surely it's got to be an automatic weapon with 250+ dead or injured? Not that I know anything about guns.

Denial, denial denial.
I am sure that the survivors do not give a flying foofahabout what weapon was used.
Multiple large capacity magazines, a room full of weapons no doubt we will soon hear from the morons in the NRA claiming it is their right to hold such weaponry.

Kudos to the police response. I don't know how many minutes it took before the shooter was taken out.

As I was typing this...it has just been reported that the gunman killed himself.

We need to wait for police to confirm the type of weapon used. From the sound in the video clips it sounded more like a bump-stock semi-auto than a fully-auto.

Why does that matter? Whatever it was, it was enough to fire hundreds of shots in a short period of time, hitting at least 250 people, 50 of whom are now dead and more may follow. I don't really care what official category of weapon did that.

The only two relevant points, to my mind, are:

1. what has happened in this country that some people view mass murder of random people as the way to express their anger/alienation/depression/whatever, and

2. this country will never disarm itself because there is too much money in the gun industry and too many manipulated people who think their "freedom" is at stake.

Edit: Make that 400 or so injured.

Giving a press statement the Sheriff said over 400 injured...over 50 dead.

Yep. Exactly this.

The Sandy Hook "response" proved to me that there is no point in giving a crap.

Hurricanes, mass murder, lack of health care, tornadoes, gerrymandered districts, wildfires ... there are a lot of unfortunate phenomena in the US that are simply not amenable to being overcome or ameliorated. One should just cultivate one's own garden.

Well you can give a crap, but it won't do any good. There will be a few days of hand-wringing and then on we will go until the next one.

I just watched a youtube vid of one of those, good grief! I made an FN assault rifle fully auto once by jamming the trigger sear open and it didn't shoot that fast.

They'll make it a little harder to check into a resort hotel with a bag of guns, but I doubt the Donald will do anything to irk the gun lobby.

The Graun said he had 8 in his room, the only mention of his past if a hunting license in Alaska years ago.

Give it a few days for better info.

But we can speculate meantime.

Yeah, well, of course we need those sorts of guns around to be free, don't we. $99 at Walmart, and you too can kill 50 people.

A bump stock is not a gun and I did not think Wal Mart sold them?

Please try to be a little less literal. It really doesn't matter where he got it or what it is,a gun or a gun part or attached to a gun - what matters is that he could, and did, get the wherewithal to kill a large number of people in a few minutes.

The fourth comment down is, er, interesting....

Only 3 left! $61.80. Along with the rest of your arsenal.
