As far as I'm concerned, if the wealthy and powerful a)spoke up and b) actually did something to address our attempts to destroy our own means of life support then that would be a very good thing (and in many other spheres, not just that one). How miserable or "ordinary" does this teenager's background have to be before a load of old farts who can't deal with the way a teenager thinks and talks stop trying to rubbish her? She's probably done more to publicize and therefore help than any of them by a long, long way. Teenagers have been annoying grown ups since time began, and long may it continue. They are growing up and just discovering injustice and wrong and addressing it the only way teenagers can - by criticising the rest of us and our actions that led to this situation. I think we should be able to hear that without spluttering and trying to send them to their rooms without supper.
It is difficult to separate such teenage 'prodigies' from their parental influence. Don't forget the amazing Malala Yousafzai and her speech to the UN at 16 years old. She was the result of a home and father that pushed education for girls against Taliban atrocities.
What she achieved others will follow ---that is the importance.

Agreed. It's about more than the individual. Some individuals become figureheads, but they represent the pool that holds them up. I

Some of us, er, more vintage types retain the ability to speak out and act out you know. I would never disqualify anyone or make assumptions because of their age alone. Around the world, some of those boomers literally threw their bodies on the line to battle injustices and right wrongs. I try to just take people as they come, regardless of age, income, education, etc.
The boomers came after the great generation of war heroes (thinking purely in World War terms, obviously there have been wars since).

But obviously, not an entire generation are ****wits, totally agree. I just quite enjoy the response those two words are getting across social media at the moment. The irony of the outrage is just outstanding.

Unfortunately, income, age, education and don't stop people being ****ing idiots.

Children should be seen and not heard. Know their place.

No, they do not, but nor do any of those characteristics guarantee clever behaviour either. People are just people. And those post-war boomers - some of them - have been in the thick of civil rights, justice, equality, anti-racist, and democracy struggles around the world.

But yes, getting pissed off because a teenager gets a platform ("how dare she!!!") just makes people look silly.
