It's not just about guns, it's about the person holding the weapon

Granted, a gun could have injured and killed more, but tightening gun controls is not complete answer.

No deaths from reports I am seeing. I am surprised at the injury level, one would think it easier to avoid a knife, but who knows what one does in shock and disbelief during an incident.

Scarily, this is very very close to my house. Have been hearing sirens for quite a few hours.
Very sad news. I hope they are all okay. 14 injured last I heard.

Bink, it's very close to the other office where I work too (I'm not there today though). I know a few people taking courses there; hope they're OK.

There's a huge difference between knives and guns. Imagine if today's attacker had had a gun. Handgun, shotgun, semiautomatic, doesn't matter. Gun control is not going to make people safe, but it will at least have a chance of protecting them from gun attacks.

BTW I did specifically title this thread "It's not only about guns.... ", and NOT "It's not about guns.... ". The purpose of the thread was to discuss/ debate the observable fact that there are some deeply troubled individuals among us and passing some new gun control laws is not the complete answer. (Please note I said "... not the complete answer." and NOT "... not the answer."

How many flaming guns do these twits need and why do they have to keep showing them off?

I find it somewhat ironic that the same people that are ardent gun control supporters, can in the same breath celebrate the death of an elderly woman from their home country.
For Jersey girl, here is a student at the scene saying that exact thing:

Bash away because it is Fox or the Blaze, but MSNBC would never have aired it if it were their story.
As with the knee jerk gun bans in the North East, this "Bill" is already in the Texas legislature, and with this incident will most likely pass for CHL holders.

Why does he need guns, god protected him. Absurd.

Most traffic accidents are not caused by people with mental illness, though a few probably are.

SSRI's are prescribed for many things including: OCD, premenstrual disorder, bulimia, anxiety, antiviral med and anti-smoking. Due to the current over prescriptions of meds, some folks may get labeled, and that can run against HPPA, federal law.
What is telling is the side affects of these drugs which can enhance any threat based activity in some people, albeit a minority, but murders are in the minority also.
So how do you treat a variety of medical issues, when the solution (med's) may actually enhance these tendencies in some people, while protecting those that are not violent or threatening?

I saw this piece on CNN, and my first thought was when will Congress act?
The following piece was with the Giffords, he was shooting his Gloch with a 17 round magazine, soon to be illegal in Colorado.
What sort of example does that set?
